there's something weird going on with the save system. it all looks OK in the debug panel. but when you log out and log back in you realize you progress wasn't saved once, and you just lost a couple of hours. all my friends have experienced it today a couple of times (on two different servers).

massive desync, no zombies spawning/ no loot spawning/ warping! this happened with 6 of my friends! on 8 different servers we tried.

We are like ghosts! none of the scripts are being activated!

I think you just have to put it down to the joys of Alpha testing. It's pretty good for Alpha code though.

DayZ must really be pushing some sales numbers for ArmA II because it is currently number 2 on Steam. People are buying ArmA II just for this mod. The forums have also seen an increase in new registrations and daily visitors.

Luke Plunkett at Kotaku has stated "This Might be the Greatest Zombie Game Ever Made". There are 3 blog posts about this mod alone at Kotaku with a total of 261,595 views.

I have yet to get into a game. Battleye keeps kicking me out for ünknown game version. running 1.6 patch used DayZ updater to get to 1.5.7 and placed Battleye 1.151 into both ArmA2 and Expansions folders. Frustrated.

Gnat;2149648']Maybe those player killer should feel a little more pain for their sins' date=' to reduce their willingness to do it again.

- On spawn you can't move/shoot for PK's times 5 minutes. 1 PK = 5mins, 2 PK's = 10 and so on

- Time in game reduces the delay: 1 hour = 1 min.

Unfortunately those who kill defending themselves are disadvantaged.[/quote']

two things:

1) punishing people with pure central server congestion is punishment enough. Took me an hour and a half to log on tonight - after trying a dozen or more servers. The "waiting for server response" is killer enough without adding penalties for PK.

2) I'm a pk'er. I could care less about "surviving" because it was fun for me for about 2 days. I derive pure pleasure out of stalking live prey and shooting survivors and jacking their shit. I'm sure boatloads of other bandits adopt the same style of gameplay. I get satisfaction in setting up in the woods and waiting for a pair of unsuspecting travellers to wander up a well used road. I pick off one with a well place chest shot from my CZ, and while the other one scrambles frantically trying to figure out where the shot came from, I patiently wait until he decides the threat has moved on and at the last possible moment - I drop him like a sack of potatoes....

Now why would you want to take that fun away from me???

One thing i dislike is when bandits spawn on my location even though i had just checked the area a minute ago.

this is especially bad at airports and military bases because the sons of bitches go there and then just abort and reconnect waiting for good loot to arrive. Make it so that no person can spawn within 100m of another and certainly never in same building.

PvP is a core part of the mod, punishing people for using their advantages to survive is not the correct way of encouraging team play. This is the zombie apocalypse, not some fantasy Care Bear land where everyone dances around a camp fire while throwing flowers and singing Kum ba yah.

Priceless!!! :rthumb:

I prefer COOP-style but you're right.

Silly question you are running Combined OPS?... ie arma2 and operation arrowhead ? Try joining a normal game Arma2 combined ops game, just to make sure your game install is ok first... it that works then the problem is in the dayz mod... if not look at your amra2 CO install. I also noticed that a lot of servers are starting to use the Beta.... you may want to give that a whirl...

Great idea.

Player killers are also screening the coast lines and knowing spawn locations. Some spawns in remote unoccupied towns could help solve this.

I suggest allowing us to call in artillery strikes. ;)

Seriously though, people shouldn't be forced not to do something, but as a game, there should be balanced gameplay for whatever path you choose. Maybe some sort of bandit bounty system so the hunter becomes the hunted... I don't know...

...and I think there does need to be some artificial measures to help people band together. Real-world reasons for people to band into small groups don't really exist in the game ie, need for companionship, protection whilst you sleep or are sick, having people with specialist skills etc,

I agree - there is no problem with someone stalking about in the woods picking off lone travellers, but there should be some kind of consequence. I don't know maybe 'Wanted' posters with the last known position of bandits get put up in towns? Something to encourage the 'opposite' approach is needed I think as this is what will take it into RPG territory rather than simple deathmatch.

On the 'surviving is not fun' part - I kind of agree, there need to be advantages to surviving in a more civilised manner. It's a game so people are not going to be forced down the same route as in reality, so there need to be artificial elements introduced to get some balance.

I am about to play this for the second time. I didn't meet any other human players the first time I played, and am not sure what to expect next time I play. So a few questions:

1). Do I shoot first and ask questions\deal with rage later? Or should people not rage if I Stalk and kill them?

2). If I have nothing and approach someone, are they more likely to try kill me or let me go?

I don't really understand how I am supposed to play this : P

Thanks

I think this is where a lot of the issues lie. If I were you I would spend some time in chat and try and figure out who is good/bad from there before meeting up. When the mod first appeared, I was able to group up quite easily just by meeting people. However in the last few days I have not lasted more than 30 minutes before being gunned down by a bandit without even seeing them!

It has great potential though and it's worth playing. The tension is unbelievable!

If you want simple deathmatch stay at the coastline and bigger cities, airport and camps but if you want to find or construct something (vehicle, helicopter...) you have to search & find parts of it. There is nothing else to do.... no getting away from Chernarus, no finding important hints/signs, no apocalypse or pre-emptive nuclear strikes to clean Zombie-infested areas etc.

Where to download?

Armaholic links are dead, www.mediafire.com/dayz, does only contain a txt file. the DL mirror on the website links to an unpacked version with 20 separate DL's.

There's the catch.

Two things that really pee me off with player killing:

1. It's sometimes totally random. I was killed once, and the killer didn't even nick my stuff, he just shot, and went away. What the heck was that for ? I can "understand" if you want to get someone's stuff, but this was just random and totally senseless and quite frankly, some people only do this because they enjoy killing players and imaging them raging at home. It has nothing to do with the game, it kills immersion and players. I admit I come from a roleplaying background (Neverwinter Nights), and when I play a game, I usually do things my character would do. That means, it has to make "sense" in the context of the game. Your mileage may wary, but if you just want to kill, then, honestly, why not play Call of Duty ?

2. Closely related to that is the "coast lurking". There are people that just sit around the spawn points, killing newly spawned player. Again, what the heck is that for ? They don't have stuff at all, and it's not as if you can't get these things from almost anywhere.

I agree fully that players killing other players is an integral part of the whole thing. However, some people just overdo it and ONLY kill players, for no reason other than their twisted idea of "fun".

magnus28, no offense, but your "fun" is at other people's expense.
