ARMA 2: OA beta build 89223 (1.60 MP compatible build, post 1.60 release)

Recommended Posts

about the SMAA quality problem, we may know what's wrong now,

(at least if the screens of Yours are from 3D != 100%)

thanks

NP, glad i could help you :yay: (Screens are 100% , Yes)

care share? just curious

sure, why not .. give me a few days more for testing and fine tuning ok ? but i can only test on NVIDIA System

speaking of which, how fare your FXAA injection (w/o sharperfilter compare only) vs our FXAA ?

As my last A2FXAA was based on FXAA 3.11 i reached the limit with i i think ... the powerline problem cant be solved with 3.11 , maybe with 4.0 by TL

latest info from TL : FXAA 4.0 should be out around GDC (March).

almost the same :j: may i ask about your Rig Specs. ?

Not the same. Look at shadows and little bit closer.

Lack of details and AA on shadow with BIS SMAA.

ASUS GTX465 Overclocked, Latest beta drivers.

@eooqe

what edge detection You use for first pass ?

Luma ? Color ? or Depth ?

I definitely see differences between those, SMAA Inject 1.2 more effective dealing with those diagonals (shadows on concrete, metal braces, lamp cover near the glass)

PS: where does that extra rust detail comes from? :omg:

Sometimes its flickering.

Probably sprite bug!

it seems like dithering in the edges... but thanks for the explanation.

without cursor. (we don´t play with hud or crosshair ;) ) if you have no reverence "where you are" with your mousepointer than its gets confusing. the look up/down movement is also suddenly very fast.

Yes, without cursor this obviously will go havoc. Will be enabled only when there is a cursor visible.

I could reply in the same spirit: how could a build difference make performance go down to 1/2 without PPAA, when the only changes were vehicle steering and adding SMAA?

Well, to be honest it's not about a single build; I compared it (for simplicity) with 1.60 final. I guess this wouldn't really matter if it could be reproed by more people than only me, but it looks like I'm alone on this so far.

As far as i know from my last A2FXAA Injections is that there are problems here and there with ATI GPU´s ... but on one System there are problems , on another with same gpu and driver are not ... it´s not so easy to figure what the problem causes

Some offtopic...

There were always problems with ATI cards. I remember my ATI Radeon 1900 and 1950. Both died without any overclocking.

Continuous Catalyst compability probs also forced me to use only Nvidia.

I have 3-4 fps more with latest beta.

I am sorry for a stupid question maybe, but which setting should be used to get maximum quality(or is it smart to use FXAA along with SMAA) ?

I am currently using these settings with no problems so far:

FXAA=17;

FXAASharp=6;

PPAA=3;

PPAA_Level=3;

I see no reason to use both FXAA and SMAA.

For best quality use FSAA

Well, I forgot to mention, instead of FSAA(that one have a huge FPS impact on my PC).

note that FXAAsharp makes no effect with PPAA=3; as SMAA don't need filtering at all (it works differently than FXAA)

there is no FXAA and SMAA together :cool: it´s FXAA OR SMAA with the presets below :

PPAA=0; setting not (yet) available in UI. Default is Disabled. Enables Anti-Aliasing technique via post processing: [2]
0 - Disabled
1 - FXAA [3]
2 - FXAA + sharp filter [4] (hard-coded strength of sharpen is now 0.15)
3 - SMAA [5]
WARNING this setting was introduced in 1.61 beta 89223
PPAA_Level=0; setting not (yet) available in UI. Default is Disabled. Values determine for each respective PPAA type used:
0 - SMAA_PRESET_LOW or FXAA_QUALITY_PRESET_12
1 - SMAA_PRESET_MEDIUM or FXAA_QUALITY_PRESET_22
2 - SMAA_PRESET_HIGH or  FXAA_QUALITY_PRESET_26
3 - SMAA_PRESET_ULTRA or FXAA_QUALITY_PRESET_39
WARNING this setting was introduced in 1.61 beta 89223

Can we assume:

Accepted values for PPAA_Level are:
0 - SMAA_PRESET_LOW	>	SMAA 1x
1 - SMAA_PRESET_MEDIUM	>	SMAA 2x
2 - SMAA_PRESET_HIGH	>	SMAA T2x
3 - SMAA_PRESET_ULTRA	>	SMAA 4x

...as in the linked documentation provided in the source? The only temporal filtering being the level "2"?

SMAA is way superiod to FXAA in quality (at any quality level) it uses multiple and more complex techniques (read the documentation on SMAA including compare samples)

FXAA is faster and consumes less memory

I did, i do. I not debating which tec is better. I am only writing what i see implemented in your game, i see the SMAA as blury relative to FXAA. 1280/1024, AA@6, no PP, rest on VH. Default CCC setting/App_pref. I like both... Keep it up you guys are the best.

The image in this post shows perfectly how the in-game SMAA implementation is lacking compared to the injected variant. I hope this can be resolved.
