1 Arma and 2 Players in LAN?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I own one copy of Arma OA and I have 2 PCs. Is it possible to install this copy of Arma OA on both PCs and play it in LAN (not online!) with 2 Players?

I just want to show a friend how immersive Arma OA can be in Coop and I don't want to buy a second copy just for that single day.

Thanks!

p.s. I cannot use Arma 2 Free because the missions I want to show him only work in OA (and also not in the demo version of OA).

No, you can't. 1 ArmA = 1 Player.

However, ArmA 2 free should do it to show the immersion since it isn't tied to a single Mission.

As said numerous times before: 1 licence per player, no matter if for one day or forever.

Like Myke said, you still could make a mission using ArmA2 only.

I think it's possible to play a LAN game with the same key. Not so much online.

AFAIK "Fade" will also kick in, even without Internet connection. If i'm not mistaken, the Player ID check for double ID is in the game itself and only works if using 1 dedicated and 1 client instance of the same game install/key.

I could be wrong though.

can't he just buy another new game key for activating a second copy and use his original disc/setup for installing the game? (LOL Arma Devs do deserve a contribution from your friend's side too :D )

No, you are correct. This happened to me when I accidently ran two of my clients on the same key on a LAN game. It's what you get when you build a client from an image and forget to change the registry afterwards!!

You'll get warnings and eventually FADE would kick in I guess.

Oh, don't worry I am fully legal - I have bought this game so many times, I should have been invited to the BI Xmas Party!!

ok..when I said obtaining a Legal key..I meant buying it Online (No box packs!) :)

from sprocket? (maintained by BI itself?)

Yeah if you buy from Sprocket it's better for BI as it's their distribution arm.

Mate, it wasn't my intention to imply you anything illegal, just pointing to be careful where to buy. But as you mention Sprocket, yes, that would be the best choice as BIS will get most revenue from Sprocket sales.

And just to avoid misunderstandings in the future: don't speak about "key" but "download version". ;)

LOL hey..no offence taken bro :)

Yea..actually I was not able to catch/remember the right word "download version"

thanks for litting it up :D

ARMA 2 Rulez! (I wish I can contribute to this community by spreading some awareness about Arma series games on youtube/gaming forums etc.; fairly a less..very less number of people know about Arma's existence!)

Such a good mil-sim it is! poor fellas still stuck on COD/BF (no offence to fans; I am NOT comparing but just giving out my thoughts; maybe wrong forum/thread but YEAA.. arma 2 sure rocks!; FYI: I have played both COD series and the BF series till date..even BF3 )

Looking forward to arma 3 release :)

I have bought 4 keys from Sprocket and use the same set of downloaded files from Sprocket to run the installs off (a CO 1.59 download). Just enter a different key on each machine you install it on. Works nicely, just need to keep a list of what machine got a certain key

I really hope it doesn't since trying to write/debug scripts to work properly on a dedicated server there is a need to run two clients in Windowed mode on the same machine.

Hmm from what I understand, if you run two different client IDs at the same time using the same registry key, you will fall foul of FADE regardless of wether they are on the same PC or not.

I know I could do this back with A1 without problems but maybe things have changed? just getting back into some scripting again.

I do have more than one A2:OA key but AFAIK only one can be installed on a single machine. It's much more convenient to run two windows side by side while testing...

I have tested my multiplayer missions countless times with two instances of Arma 2 on the same LAN server on the same machine. There have never been problems. FADE message and kick ensues only when connecting to an online server with a duplicate ID.

I am going to bow to your superior knowledge then. Maybe when I was running the same key on two clients I was also connected to my dedi-server. It was a while ago and my memory isn't what it once was!

As an aside, you have at least confirmed an easier way for me to test multiplayer!!
