Alwarren 2767 Posted September 9, 2012 Time for an update again. I've been doing some other stuff and only occasionally worked on this project, but still, here's some new pictures. (click for larger) This is the new G33 magnifier. I ditched the old one because it wasn't an original part. This one should be fairly accurate. The shot is a bit older, I have re-touched some parts of the bump map in the meantime. (click for larger) First picture of the RSASS. The texture is not finished yet (I am still struggling with that one), it's missing the SMDI layer too so it looks a bit dull. Same for the AN/PAS-13(V)2 TWS. I apologize for the lack of updates. I'll try to speed things up a bit again. ~~ Alwarren

That will be really cool if you can make a "hybrid version" of the RSASS with 2 sights: A red dot + Sniper scope: [url']http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/File:MW3-RSASS-2.jpg There's a video in afghanistan where the SF use the Mk 12 Mod 1 with 2 sights But I don't know if we can use 2 sights in Arma 2:( Even if we can't use it, that can be a very good looking gun! just a suggestion... :p Edited September 10, 2012 by GIAT industries
Varanon 892 Posted September 10, 2012 Btw, just a suggestion... That will be really cool if you can make a "hybrid version" of the RSASS Look very closely at the picture, and you will see the backup red dot, and yes, it does work (First picture of the RSASS, just below the front part of the thermal optics)
babylonjoke 22 Posted September 10, 2012 Good rifles, just one thing...maybe you should check the smoothing groups on it... Keep it coming! :D
Alwarren 2767 Posted September 10, 2012 Good rifles, just one thing...maybe you should check the smoothing groups on it... I might have forgotten to apply the edge split on this one. But most likely, it's an issue with the normal map.
SuicideCommando 333 Posted September 10, 2012 Awesome looking work Alwarren. Still can't wait to use these.
Alwarren 2767 Posted September 17, 2012 New WIP shot (no pun intended) of the RSASS: The textures is mostly final, including the specular map. I might need to tweak the bumpmap in some places still. Oh yeah, and I need to put a scope on it too. This model, in spite of sharp edges, doesn't have an edge split modifier applied to it. I modified Leoptarm's exporter to to write not only flat shaded polygons but also edges that are marked as sharp into the #SharpEdges# tag. The result is that this RSASS has 6k vertices, where the edge-split version had 12k. I need to test the modifications a bit, then I am going to sendthem back to Leoptarm for inclusion in the next version.
babylonjoke 22 Posted September 17, 2012 This is so beautifull!!! Oh yeah, and I need to put a scope on it too. Lookin forward to see it mounted!!

Alwarren 2767 Posted September 25, 2012 Two new pictures of the M24E1 a.k.a. XM2010 (click for larger images) Texture and normal map still need some finishing touches, but all in all the model is finished. I have to verify the size of the scope, though, it appears way too small for me... have to check against the official measurements. Now for the LOD's and shadow casters. Still haven't decided whether I should call it XM2010 or M24E1. I guess the latter will be the official name..?
fluttershy 2 Posted September 26, 2012 (edited) Naming it depends highly on the caliber your looking for. The M24E1 will use .300 Winchester while the original concept of the XM2010 was layed out to be .308 Lapua for cartridge interchangability with other Nato forces that mostly use the Arctic Warfare L115s and soon to be released AX308 frame. Plus the fact that the .308 is overall a better caliber for long range engagements, but again the US Army derped. The M24E1 will use .300 Winchester while the original concept of the XM2010 was layed out to be .338 Lapua for cartridge interchangability with other Nato forces that mostly use the Arctic Warfare L115s and soon to be released AX308 frame.Plus the fact that the .308 is overall a better caliber for long range engagements, but again the US Army derped. I might do two config entries then. I wanted at least one authentic version like the US. Army uses with the .300 Win cartridge. OTOH, the .308 gap is filled by the MSR, so that might be a bit redundant :) Thanks for the heads-up, fluttershy :) ---------- Post added at 11:17 ---------- Previous post was at 11:15 ---------- These are really nice babies. May we can taste them before ArmA3 come out. I hope so, although I wouldn't mind that ARMA 3 came out, like, next month or so ;) I've decided to split the pack, going for two separate packs with assault rifles and sniper rifles, with the latter coming first. I have the RSASS and XM2010 finished. I'll add the MSR next, and MAYBE the Remington 700 FED. So with a bit of luck, I should be finished by next month with the first pack. (EDIT: Should be .338 Lapua Magnum) Edited September 26, 2012 by Alwarren
jagheterjan 10 Posted September 26, 2012 The M24E1 *is* the XM2010 and vice versa, the former being the original program name for the Army's M24 replacement program and the latter being the name of the Remington design which was entered in the M24E1 bidding. Remington won the bidding and XM2010 Enhanced Sniper Rifle subsequently became the official program name after contracts were finalised in late 2010. The outcome of the M24E1 program was meant to be optimized for the .300WinMag Mk 248 cartridge from the start, so that's why the XM2010 in Army use comes with a short-throw action chambered for .300WM only. Alwarren 2767 Posted September 26, 2012 But what will the official US Army Designation be? I mean, they started with XM16E1 as well which became the M16, I suppose the XM2010 will lose the X eventually, will they call it M2010, M24Asomething or something eentirely different? Most likely it will be M2010 , like they did with xm1014 - which is now m1014 aka Benelli M4[h=1][/h]
Alwarren 2767 Posted September 26, 2012 M2010 it is then... Or I'll pull an XM8 and rename them later :) Thanks for the info!
Alwarren 2767 Posted October 10, 2012 Time for an update. Here's two screens of the finished MSR: (click for larger) I've finally finished all the parts, including the new AN/PEQ-15 laser pointer seen on one of the shots. If I get to work a bit more on it, I will probably be able to release the first version somewhere next week, which will include the RSASS, MSR and XM2010 sniper rifles for now. I'll add the assault rifles in a later update (or maybe in a separate pack, I don't know yet). For the time being, I'll go with one color version of each rifle (RSASS Tan, MSR and XM2010 black) but it will include silenced/non-silenced versions of all three, and it will include versions with a Leupold Mk4, Leupold + AN/PVS-29 clip-on night vision sight, and an AN/PAS-13 Thermal Weapon Scope. I struggled with the MSR a bit because it needed custom hand anims and I didn't know how to do that, but luckily there is an excellent tutorial by b00ce here on the forums that helped me a great deal. scarecrow398 43 Posted October 11, 2012 Excellent news! Whats going on with the trigger on the MSR though, is it just clipping through the finger?
Alwarren 2767 Posted October 11, 2012 Yeah, it's clipping, I have to work on it a bit. If you look closely, you will see that the thumb is twisted in a way that would most certainly hurt like hell :) But considering my first attempt looked like this: I consider this a minor teak ;)
scarecrow398 43 Posted October 11, 2012 I see no problems here... :D
roberthammer 582 Posted October 11, 2012 Nice going ,but check that scale - because that MSR looks way too large
Alwarren 2767 Posted October 11, 2012 Nice going ,but check that scale - because that MSR looks way too large According to Remington's web site, the MSR has a length of 46", so the size *should* be correct. Here's a comparison with BI's M110 and SCAR: It does look correct to me, no? It might be the perspective, I used a rather large zoom on the camera.
