Recommended Posts

Hi !

Is it possible to join a server hosted by myselfe on my PC as client to test MP misions ?

I got a "CD key already in use" error as i tried it with multiple instances of ArmA.

Now i found that:

But i dont undertand what exactly this will do and how it works, the description is not very clear.

Can you help me please ?

You have to set up a dedicated server locally. This should work without any problems and you can connect locally with Arma 2 on it. Although they run both on the same machine it is a full server/client setup.

I usually recommend this to play MP Missions for yourself as the AI (except those in your group) are handled by the server, therefor the client should have better performance compared to a hosted game.

I try to get my missions working on hosted servers.

So by using a dedicated server for testing i could run into script problems that would never happen on a hosted server.

Thats why i would like to join my own hosted server.

Hosting as dedicated server is the exception case because there is no player on the server machine.

Generally missions that work fine on a deddy, will work fine on a MP hosted server. The other way around, often do not.

If the mission works fine for you on your own as MP Host, and the mission works fine for you on a dedicated server, then it's pretty much safe to assume that clients connecting to the MP host would be fine as well. So IMO focus should be testing MP Host on your own (no additional clients), and Dedicated server with at least 1 client (yourself), perhaps 2.

So basically i should setup my own dedicated server to test if my MP missions work if i understand you correct Sickboy.

Now after taking a quick look at the dedicated server setup im overwhelmed...

Is there any easy and quick way to setup a dedicated server (and terminate it later) for testing ?

@ Giallustio

I just discovered this:

Tophe's ArmA2 Dedicated Server Tool

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=11655

Do you think it would be useful for me ?

And how can i shut down a dedicated server once i started it ?

...i dont wont to have it running all the time.

Well...

You can just run the .exe and then stop it when you want to close the server.

If you don't have a cfg file, default cfg will be used...So probably the server will have your pc's name.

When you host a server, it will have all your mpmissions.

If you want you can create a cfg file, take a look here: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/server.cfg

I test all my mpmissions in this way ;)

Give it a try!

I hope this can help you :)

It really is that easy. I use it all the time for testing missions, scripts and addons on a dedi server.
