[frl]myke 14 Posted December 4, 2011 You have to set up a dedicated server locally. This should work without any problems and you can connect locally with Arma 2 on it. Although they run both on the same machine it is a full server/client setup. I usually recommend this to play MP Missions for yourself as the AI (except those in your group) are handled by the server, therefor the client should have better performance compared to a hosted game. wiggum2 31 Posted December 4, 2011 I try to get my missions working on hosted servers. So by using a dedicated server for testing i could run into script problems that would never happen on a hosted server. Thats why i would like to join my own hosted server. sickboy 13 Posted December 4, 2011 Hosting as dedicated server is the exception case because there is no player on the server machine. Generally missions that work fine on a deddy, will work fine on a MP hosted server. The other way around, often do not. If the mission works fine for you on your own as MP Host, and the mission works fine for you on a dedicated server, then it's pretty much safe to assume that clients connecting to the MP host would be fine as well. So IMO focus should be testing MP Host on your own (no additional clients), and Dedicated server with at least 1 client (yourself), perhaps 2.
wiggum2 31 Posted December 4, 2011 So basically i should setup my own dedicated server to test if my MP missions work if i understand you correct Sickboy. Now after taking a quick look at the dedicated server setup im overwhelmed... Is there any easy and quick way to setup a dedicated server (and terminate it later) for testing ? And how can i shut down a dedicated server once i started it ? ...i dont wont to have it running all the time.
giallustio 770 Posted December 4, 2011 Well... You can just run the .exe and then stop it when you want to close the server. If you don't have a cfg file, default cfg will be used...So probably the server will have your pc's name. When you host a server, it will have all your mpmissions. If you want you can create a cfg file, take a look here: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/server.cfg I test all my mpmissions in this way ;) Give it a try! I hope this can help you :)
wiggum2 31 Posted December 4, 2011 Thanks. With: and then stop it when you want to close the server. You mean i will have to terminate the arma2oaserver.exe ?

I use it all the time for testing missions, scripts and addons on a dedi server.
