Red Cross wants war themed video games to abide by Geneva Conventions.

Recommended Posts

It seems too daft to be real. I wonder if all fiction is to be treated the same. In any case, I'm glad the world is in such a peaceful state that there is spare time in the GC offices :)

Anyone want to start work on the ICRC Mod? lol

Red Cross faction:

No guns, lots of air miles, private jets, conferences, gold plated pensions, your most effective weapon is a hotline to the press. You cannot be harmed as your brain is stored in an alternate reality.

Mission - criticise any western country, if hotheads like the Taliban step over the line, break the law or murder your staff, teleport by map click back to head office where you can hide under the desk. Bonus points for silly ideas that keep your organisations name in the headlines.

Western Forces Faction:

You have guns but can't use them, if you use them and something goes wrong your PC will be locked for 10 years, hide in a base while the enemy shoots at you.

Mission - hunt down some bad guys, lose 1000s of men and spend billions of $ as you can't fight effectively because of all the red tape, end up in jail because someone shot the wrong target and the press found out. No one will say thank you for putting your ass on the line.

Insurgents Faction:

Have guns, shoot whoever you like, do whatever you like. Honestly, you can get away with anything as no one will report or criticise anything you do. Take refuge in a dodgy neighbouring country who will shelter, fund and arm you. International law will keep you safe from harm.

Mission - Plant some IEDS, assassinate a politician, stone some women to death, summary executions, bonus for human rights violations, convince some dumb kid to blow himself up, run back across the border to safety.

I'm all for this if it lets me run around with a big medic cross on my head when I play as a medic, and takes away enemy points if they shoot me when knowing I'm a medic, assuming I play as a non-combatant medic.

Otherwise? Lolno.

Your video depicting an ambulance being hit with an explosive device is against the forum rules. It heavily implies the driver of the ambulance was killed. This particular decision was arrived at by a group of moderators, based on the precident that showing APCs being hit with rockets is showing human death.

I'm placing this warning and explaination without any administrative action so you and other users can read and understand that showing scenes where death is implied is not permitted. If you wish to post a movie with questionable scenes, please contact a moderator first. Thank you.

§19) Videos/Movies

No Video/movies, either posted or linked to shall contain any of the following.

Porn, real killing, mutilations, wounds, carnage, and other disgusting/explicit footage. If something offensive is being shown in cartoon form it shall be treated as if the imagery were real and not simply cartoon. This also includes team killing or anything glorifying deliberate and or anti-social behaviour on any Public or Private server.

Does this also apply to videos showing arma gameplay that recreate obove mentioned situations?

Can the moderators add 'implied death' to rule 19? I was certain this would be allowable as no one was killed or injured in the video?

Well, that's very interesting to say the least. Imagine RC stopping your character in the middle of a "crime", and then hauling you off for disciplinary action ;D

the international humanitarian group was discussing the id to implement the Geneva and Hague conventions in games, should this be applied to the fictional recreation of war in video games or not? They come to some sort of a conclusion that Virtual war crimes won't lead to real world prosecution :D and I thought I was don laughing with it!! they say, they hope to use games to raise awareness of the rules of real warfare. there are other ways to make people aware of it, like History lessons teachings docus  .. on a side note they also add that the issue is still under consideration. At least I know one thing and that is that they can start to consider a mental check on their organization members ...

I mean:

The committee went on to say that while real-life warfare is it's primary concern, they have the ability and staffing to deal with other issues ??? Issues what issue :p they made an issue of IT but that does not mean that there is an issue is it?? I mean I don't see an issue do you see one? ... anyway cool guys those activists there dates are kept synchronized on the 1st of April

For now it is safe to say it only sticks to an id or not :-p

Beagle and Pelham

You may ask such questions in the 'ask a moderator thread'. I don't think I need to remind you that you may not discuss forum moderation except in that thread or in pm. Thank you.
