Any forms of GPS?

Recommended Posts

Through the series of RV engines one thing has plagued helicopter pilots for the longest time and that is looking at your map while in flight. BAS showed how effective an in cockpit map display is and how well it streamlines the flight to destination.

So my question is will there be any GPS devices outside of the usual M key and if so, given that maps size has vastly increased, would it be adjustable to zoom or follow through motion (One of the primary draw backs was that the entire map needed to be displayed in order to work)

Something as simple as a mounted GPS could work for the lighter, however the heavier birds have digital cockpits so why would they not be capable of integration?

You do know that the GPS is mapped to the "G" key in ToH? Pressing Right Ctrl + G will bring up the mini GPS. Not zoomable though.

The size and position can be altered in the game settings menu though.

I think it would be useful, the GPS shows a track on the map to the next waypoint like that http://www.causeyaviation.com/mfd.htm

because in the expert mode, the waypoint info disappears after a short time and you must always open the map to show the waypoint again :o

In A2/OA:

Double esc also works for "reactivating" it again. However, planned routes (from the editor) can already be set to "always show" (default is "never show"), which will enable you to see them on the map and on the "gps", at all difficulties.

Waypoints you set yourself will not show as a course line at all on the map or gps, only the position of it. For these, pilots will see their own waypoints "on screen" instead, and only if vehicle is "gps equipped". Means it only works with some (most) vehicles, and not if you exit the vehicle still carrying a personal gps.

And it zooms automatically depending on your speed. The faster you're going, the bigger the map. When you go slow you will zoom in.
