First Thoughts

So, I played about 6 hours yesterday, and here are my first impressions:

  • Ground textures aren't terrible, but aren't always nice either. Specifically the road borders are very "fuzzy" in more rural locations, and the airports (Sea-Tac) look bad.
  • The descent rate at zero collective is still too small.
  • The light helicopter did not produce rotor wash over water in some cases. The medium helicopter did.
  • The ground effect is still too strong. Coming into proximity of the ground should decrease the descent rate, but not 'push" the helicopter right back up into the air.
  • You guys know about the disappearing traffic, but I hope that gets fixed.
  • In the medium copter, the HUD shows km per hour and the panel shows knots.
  • (maybe intentional)
  • Retreating-blade stall didn't happen sometimes, the medium flipped violently after maxing out the airspeed, but the light chopper didn't seem to show any effects.

Most importantly, I want to say thank you to all the guys at Bohemia for making a game in a very neglected segment of the market. You guys have done a phenomenal job so far, and you should be proud of your creation.

Appreciate your feedback! Disclaimer: just because we don't respond to every post / request, does not mean we're not carefully reading it all ... but we're all hard at work crunching to get the game done :)

In the medium copter, the HUD shows km per hour and the panel shows knots.

In Game Options, you can find a switch to select showing units in the IGUI as Metric, Imperial or Mixed (selected where appropriate for various types of vehicles and situations). The 3D cockpits should always use the units as expected in actual aircraft.

Retreating-blade stall didn't happen sometimes, the medium flipped violently after maxing out the airspeed, but the light chopper didn't seem to show any effects.

Based on discussions with pilots: we determined our light helicopter is less affected by this and other stalling behavior, as it is more powerful for its size and has a more effective main rotor system compared to its weight.

I landed in the middle of Downtown yesterday and tried to find my office, it wasn't there but just being able to do that was really cool lol

Thanks and I also definitely appreciate the work you guys are putting into a civil helicopter sim, and am really looking forward to all the possibilities the mission editor and mods open up for the community.
