Georgian Armed Forces Mod 1.2 (now with non ACE config)

Recommended Posts

As I said, I consider such a solution, however it would equal eg. T-72B and BTR-70 removal. Also, some of the units would have drastically decreased equipment variety.

Nice mod, i understand why you use ACE, but i will wait for non ACEversion like few others here :) [maybe you will make one in future :), i will wait]. Personaly i dont like when i want to play in 1 mod i must download 2nd big mod[something small like cba-ok, but not ace]. I like mods like Fdf/CSLA all in 1pack dont need nothing alse for playing. Its only my opinion so dont by angry at me :).

Well, there is no reason why should I be angry at you :)

Trick is I am not making 3d models for this game yet and I have to borrow them from the beginning from other authors. I have decided on ACE for number of possibilities.

I will write non ACE config in upcoming days, but expect some of the units to be cut off completely.

At the moment there are ... 444 units in whole mod. Most likely Weapon Teams will be removed, same with BTRs and T-72s. This will all decrease the content and I cant do a shit about it right now. Also, forget rangefinders for snipers, bandages and medkits from the beginning for medics, vehicles with FCS that ACE offers etc.

But well, resigning from ACE configuration means the resign of all its already implemented features.

I know that if you will make non ace version you must cut few units/vehicles. But even then we will have many units to play :) so i dont think this is big problems. And people can chose what version they want to play [not all (like) play with ace]. So i think 2 versions its good solution.

VERSION 1.2 OF GEORGIAN ARMED FORCES MOD RELEASED!

The new version has been released today, most notable change is NON ACE CONFIG, as well as new textures for 2010 infantry.

More information can be found either in read me file or first post, yet, however, quoting:

FOR NON ACE USERS!

To run the mod without ACE, you have to make a few steps:

1. Go to your @GAF/Addons folder

2. Find a file named "Georgian_config.pbo"

3. Delete it

4. In the archive, find folder called "No ACE config"

5. Cut/Copy "georgian_config_noace.pbo" info @GAF/Addons folder

6. Done, now you can run the vanilla version of the mod!

What are the changes compared to the new version?

- Standard T-72 model instead of ACE one

- BTR-60 placeholder instead of proper BTR-70

- Less real use units

No units are removed from non ACE version: this means all missions invented for vanilla one will be fully playable on ACE config with proper models, graphics and configuration, like weapon loadouts. This will not work vice versa, ACE-made missions will still not work on vanilla until converted.

Here is download link (151mb), also available from first post (notice th version however, current one is 1.2!):

http://www.gamefront.com/files/21191344/GAFMod12.7z

Delayed, REALLY, but happy new year to all of you :)

Nope, maybe will appear in the future. And most likely, if I prepare a campaign, it will be set in today's and semi/fully fictional.

Still, you have MP missions for ACE version, playable in SP also.

Big thanks for non-ACE version! It is even better to use BTR-60 instead of -70 (I haven't seen any photo of Georgian BTR-70 IRL but seen -60 in 1992). And if you want to make T-72B again, it's possible to contact its original author via flashpoint.ru forum.

I dont plan to do this at the moment. Still, ACE version has to priority and all the features and non-ace one will most likely remain only compatible. I only though about contacting the authors of some more SAM missile systems, this would come in handy, and this would be released for both configurations.

BTW, Right now there are not BTR-60s in Georgian service, and I am making only 2008-2012 period right now.

x2

But there are some very rough bugs in the config.

Hmmm, can you list them if possible? Config gixes can be released pretty fast and you dont have to download entire mod again.

You're right, but as far as I know there were no BTR-70s in Georgian army at all from the very begining. Only -60s and -80s. So it' better to use BTR-60 IMHO - as some vehicles taken from stocks in case of serious conflict.

That is true, I have chosen BTR-70 because it reminds BTR-80 a lot more, while I can't find really suitable model for that very APC, at least for now. I may search for some solutions in some time, when I will further expand the project.

Here are the errors I've found so far (missing "," and so on):

class georg_2010_sl2

respawnweapons[] = {"AKS_74_PSO""Throw","Put"}

class georg_2010_sl_cap2

weapons[] = {"AKS_74_PSO""glock17_EP1","Throw","Put","ItemMap","ItemCompass","ItemWatch","Binocular","ItemRadio"};

respawnweapons[] = {"AKS_74_PSO""Throw","Put"};

class georg_NG_2010_marksman

weapons[] = {"AKS_74_PSO""Throw","Put","ItemMap","ItemCompass","ItemWatch","ItemRadio"};

this link or model seems to be broken, too:

model = "\georgian_army1\blufor\soldir12";

and:

no entry: "bin\config.bin/cfggroups/west/georgian_army/infantry_2010/unit9.name" when placing the 2010 regular marpat infantry group.

Sorry, not much time to test everything now!

There was BTR-80 addon for ArmA1, maybe it's possible to port it in ArmA2 with the permission of the author.

The Georgian Army allways had BTR-70s in their arsenal and they still got around 30-50 in storage with upgraded engines etc, but beeing replaced by BTR-80 as secondary APC option to the Nurol Ejder. I am afraid, you are mixing it up with the Armenians. We did never use BTR-60s, as they for instance did and partially still do use it as their main APC. So seeing this as palceholder, rather than realistic replacement would be more correct

I have at least two photos of Georgian -60s: this one is depicted in Zugdidi in 1992, and this - near Kodori river again in 1992. Both are from Armor Collection journal.

Yeah we used a dozen of reequipped material, which were not scrapped due to outbreak of war. Everything outdated was put into use again and in some occasions fitted with helicopter missile launch tubes to compensate their limited functionalities and maintanance problems. The BTR-60 was not used anymore. There was a much more extensive use of BRDM-2, BMP and T-55 than any other vehicle anyway. In the last decade Georgia allways had to fight with outdated equippment. Alone in 2003-2007, some 200 T-55s and S-125 single-missile systems were scrapped and every single equipment from the 90's in exception of some T-55s and engineer vehicles, were scrapped. BTR-60 might have been one of the most rare vehicles even back then. Maybe interesting for you: this was all due to a broken agreement between Russia and Georgia prior to the wars, to arrange a weapons delivery of around 900 pieces of new military hardware, Georgia could have relied on completly untill today. Of course, it did not happen, obviously.

But anyhow, this addon is about the Georgian army of 2008-2010 and not the Georgian People's or National Guard of 1991-2003

Thanks DiFoll, I have fixed the bugs you have listed me, issue was with the AK-74 PSO rifle only, model path is OK.

Still, I don't get the problem with the groups: all I made seems to be working fine, I just don't understand why blank field appears that crashes the game. I spend an hour carefully studying the config, either miss I just one letter etc. or it's a bigger mistake.

Still, all groups added work theoretically fine.

Thanks a lot!

dl-link seems not to be working yet.

This part in the old config seems to cause the error:

class Unit8

{

side = TWest;

vehicle = "georg_2010_marksman";

rank = PRIVATE;

position[] = {15,0,0};

};

};

class Unit9

{

side = TWest;

vehicle = "georg_2010_rifleman1";

rank = PRIVATE;

position[] = {17,0,0};

};

class georg_army_support_section_east_regular_2010

{

(It should be:

class Unit8

{

side = TWest;

vehicle = "georg_2010_marksman";

rank = PRIVATE;

position[] = {15,0,0};

};

class Unit9

{

side = TWest;

vehicle = "georg_2010_rifleman1";

rank = PRIVATE;

position[] = {17,0,0};

};

};

class georg_army_support_section_east_regular_2010

{

Nonetheless the soldir12 model (marpat 2008 squad leader and Rifleman 6) does not work. Anybody else got that error,too? Maybe I have to dl the mod again

The Arma BTR80 addon works with Arma2 but causes an error with the gunners in cars and trucks. Tweaking the class inheritance tree in the config just a little bit makes it work properly.
