Walking around questions

Recommended Posts

Just wandering how this works in the game?

In the original you were controlling the drones remotely from the ship, are you controlling a robot that drives the vehicle? or is that actually you? Does this mean you can walk around the carrier too?

In certain campaign missions (the story driven one), you have to take the fight to the enemy, personally. Meaning you'll be going on foot, in a Walrus tank or in a Manta. Other times your units are AI controlled as far as I know. Walking around the carrier would be a nice touch while in transit to other islands though.

Considering how fast i've seen the carrier moving in the gameplay demo videos, I don't think it'd take a long time to move from one island to the next. You can probably occupy your time there by planning out your strategy for the next island/ordering more parts/admiring your carrier's awesome looks as it glides across the water/practice flying around in the mantas while keeping up with your carrier.

And to be honest, simply walking around the inside of your carrier is going to get boring quick if there's nothing to do. While it might be an interesting minor feature that could be cool waaay in the future, it's certainly not something i'd consider important to implement.

Most of the time you are controlling the vehicles from the bridge of the carrier

.

In some/few specific moments during the story driven campaign you are required to leave the ship and for example sneak through enemy base or go around some high tech signal scramblers and disable them. Here you are just a person (or person in a walrus or manta) and that means that once you die, you are dead => game over (but don't worry unlike in real world we have save/load ;) )

Any thoughts on how this might work in multiplayer?

Would be good to play as infantry and have your friends as troops in the Walrus.

I guess there are also air defence positions on the carrier in case of direct attack.

I thought that everyone was a "robot", including the foot soldiers. And that if they died, even if you were in direct control of them, you could just switch to another unit.

EDcase, don't worry about multiplayer as it won't have it upon release of the game, but may be added in a later patch.

You remotely control vehicles from the carrier but in the campaign there are some missions where you actually have to go in and if you die its game over.

Yeah, I know MP will come later but just wondering how it might work.

How it could work: Specialised Walrus equipment, designating the Walrus as a personnel carrier. Players can then spawn as infantry from these vehicles, which would likely not go into combat and instead be kept behind the lines. This also makes them a high priority target for the enemy, as taking them out removes the ability to spawn on the island. Instead you'd have to wait for another WPC (Walrus Personnel Carrier!) to launch from the carrier.

How it will probably work: I wouldn't be surprised if we never see infantry in anything but the campaign missions. If we do, it probably wont be for quite a while.

Additional: Manta transport. Can transport a small squad of infantry around but doesn't act as a spawn location. Good for those hot drops behind enemy lines (or evacs).
