Tankbuster 1746 Posted August 28, 2011 The chap who, led part of the SAS raid on the Iranian embassy back in in 1980 has died in Greece at the age of 62. I had the honour of meeting John some 6 years ago and spending an evening in a pub with him. Although I got quite drunk, I remember him as a thoroughly nice chap. Tankbuster 1746 Posted August 28, 2011 Yes, that's right - so they are reunited. I read he really took that badly. He was particularly uncomfortable with the hero tag - he insisted he was just doing his job, but he left a lasting impression on me. He's quiet, unassuming, actually not very tall with a great sense of humour, but clearly professional and hard as fuck. I always thought the 'thousand yard stare' was a product of modern fiction, but he has a look in his eyes and a presence that is quite extraordinary. I met his daughter Hayley too.
