Maks 2011

Recommended Posts

Hey all how goes? Did anyone else go to MAKS in Zhukovsky this year? I went on a rather depressingly Rainy sunday... Was still quite good despite the PAK-FA only rolling down the runway... saw some photo's from the other days where the two prototypes were flying together... will try and upload some of my pics.

My personal highlights were..

-Seing the new MI-28 camo scheme

-Seing the upgraded mi-26

-I love seing the bear

-Seing B-52 outside of a museum even if it was only a static

-The Airbus A380 was actually really cool to see flying around so slowly with a big landing at the end.

-mig-smt on static was awesome... Randomly has boxes on the wing roots... Its really weird they are like standard box crates sunk into the wing a bit...

-Rafael I think it was the c was impressive

-Watching the F-15e blast about to a Metallica and Nine inch nails soundrack

-mig-29 ovt was a great finisher

-and of course seing T-50 for real

Anyone else? Photo's soon...

Three galleries by a buddy of mine:

Su-34 Fullback

Su-35S Super Flanker

T-50 PAK-FA

Wow Ice, your friend took beautiful pics!

BTW: when they've changed designation to Su-35S? First time I've heard about this plane it was called T-10BM/Su-35BM, in 2009 it was 'just' Su-35 (not to mention that in 90s there was another Su-35: Su-27M which evolved then into Su-37).

What is it with this helo anyway? I thought the KA-50 was choosen as the new Russian Attack Helo, why did the MI go into Production?

Nice upgrade of Havoc. Love those 5-tube S-13 launchers and 16 Ataka missiles on pylons :)

cheaper, better for ground support roles (similar to what AH64 does)..If you ask me this is one of the best looking choppers around (subjective, i know).

Yeah, but there was the chance for interrior and close ups, which is not something you can find easy around (got a few, but not covering all angles)

They got modern KA-52 so there no need any upgrades on them

Nice to see that upgraded Mi28 - anyway they will use those ordinary bigger rocket launchers - 10 rockets are not enough for attack heli

Mi-28 has been selected as the main army helo.. Ka-50/52 are designated to special units and all seem to be vvs....

[wall of very]

hmmm...what is subjective? The fact that:

a) it is cheaper to build and maintain - fact

b) from a CAS pov, it works better than any KA50/52 due to higher angle of freedom (especially on the horizontal axis) for the mounted canon. (true that the double rotor setup allows easier axis rotation and greater stability) - fact

c) the fact that i said i think it is one of the best looking choppers around and said it is subjective - hence your point is moot...

Love the Mi-28 in night-ops configuration. (Rumor said the grey colored Russian helis are for night-ops, since the black painting looks reflective from night lights.)

Damn I thought that there has been some kind of contest between the two manufacturers for the next main battle helo to replace the old Hind. At least I remember reading that somewhere...

Kinda right, the KA 50 was chosen, but very long ago for the Soviet Union but by the time it got into service its obvious shortfalls and fall of the Soviet Union suffocated it of funding. Neither the Ka or Havoc where meant to replace the Hind at that stage but just take over its main anti-tank role.

They where meant to be Specialised Anti-Tank helicopters which Kamov committed to whole heartedly while the Mi-28, a chopper already effectively with 10 years of development behind it, was still trying to be a gunship and was using quite old technology. The Ka was the new shiny special thing and it made the Havoc look silly.

They kept developing the Havoc but after the fall of the USSR it also lost alot of funding.

Until suddenly they realised the Hind needed replacing and that a specialised AT heli is not really that needed anymore opposed to a versatile all weather modern gunship, enter the Mi-28N and Super Hind. The MI-28 was chosen, Black Shark put to this special forces role that suits its little numbers(20 or something) and the Ka-52 in a role that I know nothing about.

Anyway they are all built by the same company now.

This, but why is the point moot? I was only picking up on the battle for best-looking-Russian-chopper...meaning theres no point, i thought i was quite clear in implying that i don't agree with the statement of the Mi-28 being the best looking chopper.

I don't quite think that is what this thread was intended for. Whereas the original statement was a humble aside, your entire post was devoted to this point, and it didn't really contribute to anything.

On Topic: That is quite a unique Havok livery, although most Russian aircraft now lack universality or consistence in their paint schemes. Is this a one-off livery, intended for service in a specific theatre?

Thanks for the explanation!

The KA 52 is used to coordinate the attacks of KA 50s

The Formation Leader is usually the KA 52. Its a two seater, and while the Pilot is buisy flying that thing, the other guys job is to coordinate the actions of the formation, commanding the other helos and assigning targets to them.

This, but why is the point moot?

because i already said it is my opinion, and that is a subjective one...posting a wall of "very very subjective" is childish at best, and has nothing to do with the thread at hand

I was only picking up on the battle for best-looking-Russian-chopper...

The only battle is in your own mind i am afraid, since you are the only one willing to start a inevitable endless talk about who's got it bigger and more handsome...

That is quite a unique Havok livery, although most Russian aircraft now lack universality or consistence in their paint schemes. Is this a one-off livery, intended for service in a specific theatre?

Well that is something i have noticed as well...They sort of create new schemes as they go. They blueish-grey one is, at least for me, new for the russian air force.

That explains the Hamok?

I assume they left 2 of those different chopper unattended, the result being the bastard child BIS has shown in the Armaverse

Yeah maybe BIS got some real inside info and in 10 years we will see the real Caiman :p , and it isn't just some creativeness from BIS.

Anyone else think that Russian aircraft, jets in particular just have so much more character, more than any other nations craft? Except maybe a Mirage.
