FOZGENE 10 Posted August 2, 2011 I need to roll direct x back to 9 I got 11 so there for this game won't run when I check direct x it just keep's saying it's up to date! I guess I need to roll it back to 9 somehow?
kylania 568 Posted August 2, 2011 You don't really "roll back" DirectX, both 9 and 11 get installed at the same time. Just make sure you're using the latest version.
Nicholas 5 Posted August 2, 2011 You can have both. Some games are DirectX 9, some are DirectX 10, and some are DirectX 11. ArmA II is a DirectX 9 game. You can have DX9 and DX10-11 installed all at the same time. For the latest DX9, check my signature. DX 10 and 11 are updated automatically by the operating system. Dwarden 1125 Posted August 2, 2011 you need latest DirectX redist, there is no rolling back from 11 to 9 or else on Windows 7 and Vista You have 11,10,9 altogether ...
muckymick 10 Posted August 4, 2011 no point fighting with the game trying to make it work you will only be disapointed as it will run very poorly on your current pc spec, you really need to upgrade. You should allready have directx 9 your graphic's card is dx10.1 card
[frl]myke 14 Posted August 5, 2011 You should allready have directx 9 your graphic's card is dx10.1 card Unless DX wasn't installed either manually or by another game in the background, this is not true at all. DirectX numbers are somewhat misleading as a higher version number doesn't mean that older DX files are present aswell. So if windows came with DX11 (or 10), DX9 is missing and needs to be installed for DX9 Games to run. There is no real "backwards compatibility",
muckymick 10 Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) You are correct but this is highly unlikley if he has been playing game's on this machine without any issue's. I was only pointing out that their is no real point in trying to make arma 2 work with his current pc spec judging by his hisy fit he through when it was pointed out it was probably a hardware issue that was cuasing arma 2 to not run, he will only find that it is completly unplayable if he should get it to work and then the rattle really will be out of the pram. If he is indeed missing directx 9 and that is the reason arma 2 will not run why does it run for every other person that has either a computer that meet's min spec or greater ,as i'm sure they would also be missing directx 9? I have a directx 11 card and have never had directx 9 installed on my machine and arma 2 work's for me. I'm not trying to be a smart arse i'm genuinely interested. jedra 11 Posted August 5, 2011 I think that DX9 is part of the Arma2 install package. The DX9 installer is usually intelligent enough not to trash a newer version. But, I have seen in the past that if you install a really old game it sometimes kills the DX9 install. The solution is usually just to run the installer from Microsoft's web site and it fixes things. Anyway, back to the problem in hand, the message that the OP is getting (in his original now closed thread) is almost certainly due to the fact that his card cannot run Arma2 even with DX9 installed. You get the same message if you try and run the Arma2OA main exe on a server (rather than the server exe) that has only got onboard graphics. Fozgene - I am afraid your only option is to upgrade. Your machine may indeed run other games (especially if they are console ports), but Arma has a habit of bringing the most modern hardware to its knees - it is why CustomPC magazine here in the UK use it as a benchmark to test uber hardware.
