Analysis of the Stratis Showcase trailer:
Some of the things you have pointed out, such as tail lights, blinkers, exhaust, and swaying grass have been around since OFP, ArmA 1, and ArmA 2.

Yeah, but nevertheless good job - e.g. that vehicle in the distance was something I didn't see before. :) And also a good explanation about the red / green lights on the chopper.

I really hope that's an AI driver at

. He didn't even have to reverse 3 times and drive in the wrong direction at one point to get around that corner.:p Heh, ok so the AI drivers aren't that bad, but you know what I mean if this is an AI driver it's a very big improvement. But I guess it could be that damn IAI that's been spreading rumor's of obviously obvious hints in the video.

Well, I looked into the times in front of the dates in the video. Here are some findings, relevant or not...

Overview of Stratis: 1723, 08-07-35

As a date it was an uneventful year: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1723

It is also a common Java error, having to do with not being able to update or install: http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/error-1723

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/error_1723.xml

"Java installation has not completed and an error appears: Error 1723. There is a problem with this Windows installer package."

Might have something to do with the Java scripting engine...

Scene with truck driving: 1857, 08/07/35

Panic of 1857: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panic_of_1857

First worldwide financial panic, and a major economic downturn in the US and Great Britain. This could be hinting at the declination of the West in A3 storyline.

There was also a rebellion in India at the time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Rebellion_of_1857

Firing Range: 2036, 08/07/35

This one is different, the number is one year later than the date given in the video. Something to do with when the war actually starts?

Some star trek stuff:

"According to Lt. Commander Data in the pilot episode of Star Trek: The next Generation, this year the United Nations resolved that "No person shall be made to answer for the crimes of their race or forebears." The entity Q scoffs at this, saying this was a court of 2079, when the U.N. no longer existed. Complicating this argument is that the date of 2079 in Trek lore is 16 years after the events of Star Trek: First Contact, when extraterrestrial life has already been discovered and is assisting humanity to recover from the Third World War." -Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2036

Oh and: "close approach to Earth by asteroid 99942 Apophis. The 20-million-ton object has a 1 in 250,000 chance of hitting Earth on Easter Sunday"

Asteroid... Nuke or bigger destruction w/o radiation?

Camp Rogain: 2205, 08/07/35

Type of Stainless steel: http://www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=958

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAF_2205

Made by a Swedish Company...

Also 2205 is the US pound equivalent of 1000kg.

1000kg is the mass of one Cubic meter of water...

Air Station M-26: 0445, 09/07/35

445 is a port used for file sharing and other things: http://www.grc.com/port_445.htm

As a year: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/445

Closing in on the fall of the Western Roman Empire...

Underwater Scene: 956, 09/07/35

Earthquake severely damages the Famous Lighthouse of Alexandria: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/956

Alexandria is named after Alexander the Great, who spread Macedonian and Greek Culture throughout the Near East.

in US law: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/956

Spartan Trail: 1521, 09/07/35

Martin Luther Excommunicated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1521

Also, the Diet of Worms took place...

Conclusion:

I don't think the numbers matter, maybe 1723 being a Java error is something, but I doubt it.

I had to check it out though, BIS can be sneaky. And I might not have got it all.

Not sure why BIS picked such random times for the scenes to take place, though.

Recalling the ARG buildup to announcing Arma 3, this sort of analysis can definately turn up some results. Not sure this attempt has worked out but you are right, the fact they would even bother to make a point of the time in each shot of the trailer seems a bit suspect. The only thing in your research that resonates to me at least is the link to the financial crisis, which in the backstory for the game leads to Greece's estrangement from the EU and ultimatetly to Iran's invasion of the nation.

Or they were just showcasing the day/night transition... :)

Yeah, pretty sure they were just showing off the island at different times to emphasize the improved lighting system.

The video was recorded in a Mulitplayer server I believe, If you look at the vehicle that turns right down the hill it jumps slightly from one position to a position ahead of itself. Basic MP lag we saw in Arma 2.

Also the jets are jumping forward when they scream across the island!

First point of Lag:

Second point:

Play it half speed

I'm sure it's just the way they've encoded the video.

Agreed. When I see the aircraft stuttering, it's not just them but the whole frame.

The lag is Youtube.

Watch it a few times and the lag appears and dissapears at different spots in the video.

If you use Firefox, install Easy Youtube downloader and watch straight from your hard drive.

Theres this version also

Confirmed. I downloaded the video a few days ago and there is no lag when I watch it on my computer.

Here is a brand new screenshot from the Arma 3 Fb page featuring an exclusive first look at the SDV :)

Might those spheres in the background be mines?
