terrain micro detail (bumps and rocks) would solve that ...

the main problem is usually "too flat big surfaces" (e.g. big field, completely flat)

then it gets twice worse w/o bush vegetations/rocks

and no 'noise' in the coloring (tones of various grass types and heights etc)

We need MOAR of that. Proving Grounds was really nice in this area. Loads of small foxholes, ditches beside the street and a dried up riverbank.

Anything to assist in higher polygon/higher detail in terrain mesh is huge graphical improvement to me.

Terrain quality in a game like Just cause 2 is something i would like to see in Arma 3.

just cause 2 terrain really is mostly amazing. arma2 feels a bit grittier but the sheer scale and density in JC2 is pretty damn impressive. runs smoothly as well.

Just because BIS doesn't do mountains because they are not fun to play at in this game doesn't mean you can't do them like in JC2 (which, mind you, is a game with 6-7 years old graphics thanks to limiting console hardware, so mountains are just empty without any trees and turn into terribly looking triangles when far - so I can't see how JC2 terrain is more detailed)

Here Litos gets the point across better:

So there's nothing stopping you from copying the whole JC2 island 1:1 ;)

For mountain warfare, it's not what's on the mountains that makes them interesting, but what's between them - valleys and hidden route options. But mountains in just about all games I've seen remain squashed in order to fit them in, with resulting low altitudes that may rarely break the tree line as they often do in real life. In games, mountains will probably always remain big hills. :p I don't think panthera or litos have them (no offense). To date, only Takistan has had the best approach to mountains. Then again, it does start at 2000 meters altitude :)

Takistan did them right gameplay-wise alright

The problem with mountains that are more 'mountains' like on Panthera (or mountains like in JC2) is that they are a pain in the ass to cross or move on top of them effectively cutting away that area from being a part of the game which is what I've meant by 'not fun'.

Takistani hills are just good enough gameplay wise.

Was mainly talking about BIS islands not user created, also its probably more about the texturing and the type of maps they apply to the mesh then the actual mesh itself.

Mountain side villages make for some awesome missions.

have you seen this:

you don't need more polygons, but terrain displacement and tesselation would do wonders...doubt that will be there

The railgun tank is really ugly. Can't imagine they really want to put this "thing" in the game.

You know an idea popped in my head now that I saw the new tank with the railgun.

Soundmods....

I can see some modders having a blast making custom sounds for those cannons.

I don't think it's a railgun tank. Maybe it's BIS trying to do to barrels the same thing that's going on with tank turrets now (e.g. they have angles to lessen the impact from explosive rounds or something)

Regardless - the barrel really looks terribly ugly.
