Balumba 10 Posted July 13, 2011 (edited) I have Arma 2 + OA + PMC + BAF installed and playing somewhat ok (sometimes i get ctd if i servers running on same machine as client for 48+ hours, but that`s windows for you) recently i saw arma2free offer and started to get friends in game BUT i can`t connect to arma2free witch my pal downloaded and installed from official site and he can`t connect to me (launching server from arma2 patched to 1.10) *sorry i forget to mention that he received the key, and after failed connect re-downloaded client once more, reinstalled the game from newly downloaded file and used another key (from steam offer) it says cant connect to server... any one knows how to fix this thing? i need to save my friends from cs and bf! :confused: Edited July 13, 2011 by Balumba missed a point Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Second, why posting this in Offtopic is beyond me, Troubleshooting would have been the better place. Please search for similar problems already reported before starting a new thread. Search function might be helpful aswell.) And third, some more info about involved Hardware and Game versions (exact game versions of all affected persons) would be helpful for bughunting. For second, ArmA 2 free = ArmA 2 so those go together, besides there are already some As free threads. *hint hint* ;) And for the third...oh god please, 1$ for each time i've read "it's not Hardware/game version problem" when it turned out that it was a Hardware or game version issue. Sorry, not meant to be rude, it's just the more info you give the easier the bughunt will be. Balumba 10 Posted July 13, 2011 (edited) No nat. We can see name of server and good ping to hosted Game, but then after few seconds says that it can`t connect. Balumba 10 Posted July 14, 2011 (edited) my post with links didn`t show up (posted it yesterday) :( (can any moderator check\approve it? please?) ** more on problem : i have noticed that some players connecting to my dedicated server (arma2 1.10) connect and then after few seconds disconnect Looks like this Username Connecting Username Connected Username Disconnected I added (Free Arma2) to the server name, so i guess people who`s failing to connect have same issues. Yesterday i tried to launch map with only few units (manualy placed on created from arma2 editor in game) of default sides with no other add-ons then default, no scripts, etc Same problem, i start to think there are problem when protection system checks if client is allowed to connect by key? Maybe some check does not pass before finally allowing client to join server of different version? (by version here i mean arma2free or arma2notfree clients of latest available release) Because (and i double checked my side) : Arma 2 latest version Arma 2 OA latest version Arma 2 RF latest version Firewalls pass packets (i will try to get tcpdump on our connection session, but i need all ip`s if some one can help me i`ll be glad) Nat works ok (only side with it (in our testing case) is me) i can connect any ip any port range and get reply (also tried without routers from both sides - situation didnt change) No packet loss between ip`s of testing hosts (10000 standard icmp packets sent both directions all 100% success). All sides can see the game in multiplayer game browser, ping around 15-20 range - Arma 2 free client can connect to some servers (i think hosted by free versions, but need conformation), but can`t connect to mine running not free Arma2 patched to latest version - I can`t connect to server that Arma 2 free client started (and he is playing ok, and had downloaded and installed game client yesterday one more) - My other friend with not free Arma2 (also patched to latest available) can`t connect to arma 2 free, but has no problem connecting to me (dedicated or in client launched game) - Client with arma 2 free can`t join my friend`s server also Edited July 14, 2011 by Balumba fixed errors (sorry english not my native) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Balumba 10 Posted July 15, 2011 (edited) Did you forward the ports of arma?From my side ports are forwarded (triple checked that), in tcpdump i can see packets running between our ip`s in and out, ipfw rules are allow all from ip to ip (so no blocking on my side i think). Why not play on a dedicated server? well we create a dedicated server, me and my friend - same picture. As well as i cant connect to servers he can connect to. - that leads me to conclusion there is a problem with interconnecting 1.10 free and 1.10 not free... you see i want to gather some friends with whom we played shooters since DOOM2(! just realized the years of multilayer) on dedicated server lauched for weekends and evenings... heh *after sleeping it over* i think there may be a problem on my friends side with ISP blocking ip or range or count of session from ip to ip BUT it should be very selective... he can connect to some servers after all (and play there with no problems)... One idea came to me with a morning coffee cup - Can i launch server2free in my arma2 folder? will i launch or will i get error about addons crc and stuff? i mean just copy the file from free installation and try to launch it? 99% will fail but i`m out of options (my rpt links didn`t show after 48 hours there was a message when i posted about moderator check before so i think it is still not checked) I strongly dislike to install arma free on my arma2+AO+RF - i think it will corrupt all and i will need to reinstall all over agein :confused: ЗЫЖ my dedicated server banned myself in the middle of evo when i allmost planted tower bombing device Start to think that Arma hates me, maybe i have to resort to exorcism of installation with the help of priests of different religions, and some voodoo + Chukchi shaman. Balumba 10 Posted July 15, 2011 well i saw other post somewhere here %) we tried to play on some one else's server - no luck if full arma player can join the dedi, free one can`t if free one joins some dedi - full arma player cant.... drives me MAD we have 3 clients with full arma and 2 with free (guys just don`t like to buy game atm, and getting them in game without playing together - hard) and those who have free arma don`t like to install free one for different reasons *and i`m hitting my head on this wall with no effect %( Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Balumba 10 Posted July 16, 2011 Ok, i`m back from the field of battle with this problem. for some reason 3 out of 5 clients arma 2 free connected to me after system cleaning (with cc cleaner and avz In 2 cases reinstall helped), other two have slow computers wich i think are the reasons of connection droping after all... So it seems to me problem is solved (after directly going to each pc and checking for my self). Thanks for the tips in right direction All!
