TKOH Mission for all to try

UPDATED! 21-07-11 I have adapted my original Ass&Trass mission for TKOH.

It is a flying practice type mission with scripts to test landing accuracy. It has lots of randomness built in and you can choose to fly again / fly another helo without restarting. It should give TKOH and your flying skills a work out in the small LZs. (Try the original too).

The downside is the custom GPS videos block the screen and GPS landing accuracy markers aren't easy to use any longer because of the changes to the GPS. The Intro mission camera scene had to go to. The cut scene after mission completion still worked! Otherwise the rest of it works OK.

One other thing - there is a warning alarm in the TKOH Heli on engine start. Something to do with being on the ship - just ignore it.

I have updated the TKOH mission below to include cargo lifting.

When lifting cargo it has the same guidance markers in the GPS as in the LZs.

-To lift cargo you need to have your speed under 10kts and your altitude between 12m and 7m.

-If you fly too fast the load becomes unstable and may break away, damages helicopter.

-if you drop the load outside the target area you get a message to pick it up and try again.

A marker is placed where the cargo was lost.

-The smoke markers are now created 30m ish away for improved visibility.

-The script creates objects and vehicles suitable for the size of helicopter. You can't lift tanks lol.

-Saving is enabled and the start position is next to the helicopter now.

-I am working on an OA & TKOH version in Takistan for those without A2.

Should have that finished next week.

-Let me know if there are any problems - my scripting is still clumsy lol.

PLEASE consider using a thread already made for your mission reveals. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=121445

If this game is developed by BIS and has modding/editing capability, the forum and threads that support it will likely be populated and active for a long time. Threads can be much harder to find later on, unless they are organized.

use search, the same goes for every topic, but in this case the search function isn't even required as the entire forum devoted to ToH is small (compared to Arma series).

I cant get any more respectable than that, so take it or leave it. I'm not asking you to like it. ;)

I have already seen that thread but there is not much there to suggest it is the one and only, holy place for user made missions? I am happy to comply but would suggest you leave moderation to those authorized to conduct it.

I see no reason why a mission maker should not start a new topic for a new mission he has been working on. He puts effort and time in such and thats well worth its own topic I would think.

Please drop the moderation attempts, unless you are really interested in such position, in that case apply but I fear BIS does not take applies but invites instead.

Use the report button instead when you feel a topic/post needs to be moderated so it can be checked. Thank you.

And, when you think this is a wannabe mod post, please check forum leaders just so you get my point correctly and dont feel the need to drag this any further!

I began making a reply using the pm system when I though, nah. people want to bash me publicly some more, stop. take it on and respond publicly. here was my private message.

I appreciate and understand your message. I have received your advice, and thank you for it.

I use the forum, often looking for answers that many have already answered. Just because a section is new or small doesn't mean it shouldn't be organized. Taking the time to search for your answer instead of just asking for it is good practice.

Custom missions are something that should be in its own subsection, then everyone can have their own thread. Until there is better forum structure in this section, with more varied sub topics, its important we keep similar topics together in a group. Part of my forum participation is trying to help others. While you see some of this sort of help as 'wanna be moderator' I see it as helping, not only the Moderators, but the community as a whole. You do not like it it, you wish instead I used the magic button to make it go away, that's your prerogative. I do not seek Moderator status, capabilities or responsibilities. I desire consistency.

Why is the light heli beeping when you hit the starter? Is it damaged already?

It is brutally hard to land with that drift. Is the wind cranked up more than usual? Landing seems much easier in the preview itself. Please implement saved games!!! You don't need 'em flying the A2/OA choppers, but with the new light heli? Hoooh boy.

With determination and grit, I completed the training on Veteran, and had a lot of fun. You've got to control that drift with slight mouse movement - you don't really need manual trim set or +/- thrust (old A2/OA Q/Z) in this beta. Lots of fun, but tough. Thanks for the training, PELHAM!

Beeping

Why the light heli is beeping, I don't know? I tried to setPos it for the deck of the ship in the usual way and the game just crashed. I tried just placing it in the editor and it was fine apart from the alarm.

Wind

I have not changed the wind on Utes from the standard setting of the island. I have tried flying the Heli on various islands and it reacts differently to all of them. In Takistan it's very easy, Isola di Capraia it bucks around like a wild animal. Could be the wind?

82503 with the Auto trim off is very difficult flying. I managed to get around twice before crashing into a tree lol.

Saving Game

I will work on an update and put that in ( I will also move the player closer to the helicopter as that run down the carrier deck is getting annoying for me also :D). I also wanted to put an option to try a lifting script with an ATV or something small as well.

after a lot of training its more difficult for me to handle the old arma2 flightmodel.

Is it possible to make a mission that makes neccecary to land on the top of the airport tower in utes? :D

What's the proper way to install this? I dropped it in my arma 2 operation arrowhead\Missions folder and it's saying I can't play because it "depends on downloadable content that has been deleted". I'm launching TOH through the executable that it linked on my desktop. I do own Arma 2, OA, and all DLC.

Any tips?

Not sure about that one? I have unPBO it and there are no extra addons showing apart from the Vanilla ones. Do you own steam versions of the game? I have friends that own the steam versions and have the same problem as you - not sure what it is?

Do you get the same error with the non TKOH version?

I am working on an update which will include sling load tasks. It will be out this week so try that.

I made that mission in build 82309, I think. We are now in 82767 so that could also be it. I will have a look and update it.

The betav1 version of the map runs fine in regular Arma 2: CO. I do have the steam version of the game -- running the latest beta OA build 82604 and TKOH build 82767.

Yay updates! I love new stuff.

Have a look at the original - your name is in the Credits lol!

It's amazing how much time you can spend making dynamic markers and it's all your fault :D.

it may have the sling but the missions end after 1 trip and you have to start all over again. hint hint.
