Custom armor?

Recommended Posts

So the game will be including Custom armor I read? I am unfamiliar with OA, but what I'm guessing from this, is that if one of your team-mates with a superior piece of equipment (be it a helmet or vest) is put down in a firefight and dies, would you be able to take his equipment for yourself? What about weapon customs?

There are no details available yet. My guess is that it's still very WIP anyway, so only time will tell what's in store.

I would guess... that whatever ingame system allows for weapon/attire customisation will be available throughout the game session. Perhaps though the Gear dialogue (although for the E3 demo it looked like action menu choices, but that could be an early PoC device).

Would guess that such things depends on mission design eg selecting personal equipment. It should take time to get dressed and combat ready with vests, pants, boots, helmets, gloves etc from other units. In this way the player has to decide if its worth for him to undress/dress or if its just nice to have and time is better spend with other things...

This has to be one of my favorite features that falls in the "kewl " category .

This adds so much diversity to the role-play part of mp missions . Imagine a MP training mission where the trainees wear only fatigues and army caps during the obstacle course and once they are done and switch to the CQB training course , they gear up with helmets and vests .

The "officers" can wear berets ... So many possibilities :D

I'm for the in-game possibility to switch combat gear .

Nice points maio, a training environment would be perfect for this.

Yea, Training with this Will be Great! But If we have Backwards Compatibility with ArmAII Mods then it will be Another Huge thing to Update...

And It would be Pretty sweet being Able to Grab A Opponents Helmet when your SpecialForces/Milita At Least, not sure about Regulars swapping out their gear thoguh

In combat anything goes...

Pre-combat it would be nice if you could really customise weapons; at least we can add different sights. I would like to see the ability to cam/paint a weapon; I hated the way half the weapons in A2 didn't match the environment but others did. Same goes with gear, and the ability to add tags/designations on there. Wouldn't be a bad idea.

As long as faction - specific camoflauge and armor isn't available to players of a different faction, I'm fine with it.

Why not? That should be up to the mission makers.

Only with "The Eagle Has Landed" mod :D

I hope that these armors will be like a real bulletproof armor - it will stop some bullets.

I disagree. If you're US army and dress up with a robe, turban, and hold an AK-47, you're bound to get shot at, or checked. However, you'd probably be able to get closer to the enemy. You should be able to dress up in some other faction's armor and camo. At your own risk..

Yeah... But it still stings like hell to be shot wearing Kevlar :(

i wonder if the armor will have an actual use as in trauma plates and them actually stopping bullets and not taking away health

the customizable load out needs, i think, that this game will have to have a "class system" for the characters

in this case, would be avoided situations like sniper rifle+javelin (i'm in favour for the limit of the sniper in MP game)

Well, I wouldn't say they should totally get rid of DMR+javelin, I mean, if I was in the field and could, I'd do it. Barret+Javelin though would be a problem, thankfully it's not allowed already as it is.

Maybe a 1 * X (Overall Weight) * Y (Armor manuverability) = Z (Speed reduction) order could be in existance. Slow snipers are bad snipers.

You're right. They should make just Rifleman, AT Specialist, AA Specialist, medic, sniper, machinegunner and team leader. And then ability to edit It's load - for example equip rifleman with additional AT weapon or give ability for AT specialist to choose It's AT gun - javelin and other rpg's. Just don't make same mistake - milion variants of riflemen with M4, another with MP5 and another with M16 and other thousands of riflemen. Also ability to choose if that soldier has armor or not (without armor moving faster).

I don't agree with this . The ability to choose whatever loadout/ tactical gear you want should be available to all "classes" . The mission maker can chose if he/she wants "free customization" in his mission .

No point in limiting the player and the fun he can have with it .

In this game there are long distances. the risk, IMHO with a lot of snipers, is that will become "Sniper Elite 3" not Arma 3

It will be up to the mission author to limit player abilities, not the game itself.

That depends on the implementation. It could be left to designer to grant abilities, or to limit them. I'm glad BIS put in sensible limitations on the engineer repair stuff, at 60% repairs. I'm glad that without weight penalties, vanilla seems to cater for balance rather than fully free, or we'd have nothing but unrealistic missions going (or at least a lot more).

If there are game limitations, we can usually overcome them by scripting or via addons. I would hate if every sensible limitation was put in the hands of the designer - if BIS does it it gets accepted, if I do it everybody hates me :p

It should not be "mission maker limiting" it should be "mission maker allowing"

When making a mission I wouldn't want to script a lot of stuff to disallow retardo-snipers-in-a-clown-armour because I don't have to do that now.

Mission maker is GOD. Fall on the knees and obey.
