Addamo's c-130 - getting there

Recommended Posts

Even if you did over shoot the runway i think you could just turn around and go off roading in it. I mean if it can be done with an A-10 (with low speeds) it can be done with a C-130.

sidewinders dont get used by the c130 very often becuase basically there is always in enemy territory at least 2 wingman tornado F3's now they are something you do not want to mess with

Give me a P-3C Orion (with scad's and torpedos) any day smile.gif

Then all we need is a shitload of subs, or just mount regular SLAM's or HARPOON's on it biggrin.gif

It's my favourite propeller plane after the C-130 Herc.

well not any good if a Tomcat fires it's phoenix' after it at long range...

In Fleet Command i lost 3 P3c orions while my F-14's were parked at the runway. (BUG!!! they stood there for an hour game time even if i had given them launch orders)

But my Tiacondra ship gave thoose F-4's hell.

ehhhhn...Wrong Answer!

The prize goes to Pit Viper.

The AC-130 is rather well armed.

2 20mm Vucan Canons

1 L60 40mm Bofors Gun

1 M102 105mm Howitzer

Though for OFP, this would be overkill for anything but cutscenes. smile.gif<span id='postcolor'>

You might want to add the two 7.62mm miniguns to that list wink.gif

The RAFs Hercules have no armament, unless the loady lowers the ramp and the troops have a pop at it.

In October I will be dropping supplies from them at low level wow.gif and then the landrovers from high level!

Also the C-130Js have a vibrate problem in the cargo hold, it is being worked on wink.gif but it means they cannot be used to transport supplies

For a British C-130 that is. U.S. doesn't use Tornadoes.

But at any rate you are correct that the C-130's normally have fighter escort of some type if operating in hostile areas. The only variant with dedicated air to ground weaponry is the AC-130 gunship although in the form of 20mm gattling, 40mm Boffors, and 105 howtizer cannons all of which are side mounted. There are also special operations versions of the C130 such as the MC-130 Combat Talon II that are designed to penetrate deep into enemy airspace to insert Special Ops units or to resupply those units. It does this by flying at very low altitudes using a terrain avoidance radar system similar to that found on the ground attack variant of the Tornado fighter-bomber. It also features heavy ECM equipment as well as flare and chaff dispensers.

A heavy with 50 AMRAAMs and 50 Mavericks?

Sounds like you want someone to model the Old Dog :)

It would also be perfectly realistic that it could land outside the airports. It has always been designed to operate as a STOL aircraft, and it is SOP to use beaches for runways.

Regarding C130's beeing armed with sidewinders: I'm quite sure the RAF did it during the falklands war.

what about a refueling version of the c-130 do you think the game engine would support it?

Nah, Max Res to you for your fabulous OFP FAQ site.

http://www.theavonlady.org/THEOFPFAQ/ for those who haven't been there. But thanks for the plug. Now if only I can get that Harbinger mission finished. I keep getting inspired by all the great new addons and start messing about with other missions before finishing one. smile.gif But no worries, "Harbinger" will get done. smile.gif Since you've played it can you think of any good addons that would go well with that one? Too bad there are no HALO special ops soldier addons. sad.gif

Hi guys I just found this thread on accident.

I would work on it more but I have been really busy and can only pick at it here and there. Usually on Wed's

Thanks for the good comments.. The plane flys quiet well and I have taken off and landed at Everon main airport without problems. Im not the best skinner.. (still learning) this big plane is a big project. I never imagined it would have been so much work :)

care to clearify on what is incorrect? if you dont believe that C-130s' dont air drop fuel bombs the proof is right here. if your saying that im wrong that C-130s dont carry any other weapons other than the daisy cutter, than its you who is wrong, the C-130 is a cargo plane meant for transporting troops, vehicles, supplies, and dropping daisy cutters, it doesnt have weapon pods. the AC-130 spectre is the plane with the weapons. both the hercules and the spectre are two different aircraft w/ different purposes.

erm excuse me.

I dont think the RAF had Hercules in the Falklands Conflict, and if they did they didnt have sidewinders. Because there is no room for a weapons systems operator on board.

The British only used chinnoks and helicopters to transport the troops and Vulcans and Harriers to attack.

So i have read anyway.

I have been on a few hercs before adn that one looks dapper biggrin.gif
