Napalm

Recommended Posts

Arma 2 really lack a good napalm effect OR Mk77 Bomb.

I really hope also that the liquid fire effect of Napalm will be modeled too.

Thankyou

lol are you kidding?

The US used it in Iraq along with WP, British used WP grenades too.

I think also the US and possibly other forces are using it in Afganistan too.

But to be fair I dont think it makes a difference if its used or not, there are plenty of mods that would welcome the addition with wide open arms.

The modern "napalm" is not really napalm anymore, the composition is vastly different, it's just retained the name as the (destructive) effects are similar, and it's a household name. The last major uses were in the 1990' in conflicts in third world countries, only around 30 are known to have been used in Iraq.

There are many other types of bombs that are used far more often, and would offer a lot more if implemented.

There's only one thing that comes to mind; massive performance drop.

Or of course just really really ugly effects.

Not a bad suggestion, but I think it would require quite a bit of work. You'd need to get the flame to follow the wind direction, fire effects and physics to burn down plant life, and animations for the units when they come into contact with it.

I think it's a fairly good suggestion, as I don't feel Arma 2 portrays any traumatic battlefield events in-game, it all feels quite methodical and cold. But I'd doubt there'd be anything like this for a while, I'm sure BIS are working on smoothing out the kinks at the minute.
