No no no, we still do miss too much of the real stuff (German and Soviet softskins, some major Polish armored assets; virtually no airplanes [!]) to bother with alternate history ;)

I was asked if we're going to include Polish post office and railway workers yesterday; so I began making appropriate textures.

About the lack of collar patch, it seems that penal batallions did wear uniforms without insignas.

There are still some historical inaccuracies in the appearance of the Wehrmacht, but they will be corrected as we progress.

So far we have only one German model in game, for weapon, texture and animation testing... So please excuse our Herren for having Y-straps, which were not yet so popular back in '39 (only some NCO's were carrying them and the numbers were limited. SS-Verfuegungstruppen or Pioniers had some too, yet it was seldom to see and if so, the brown leather variant of the SA or SD was used). Those characteristic Y-straps as we associate with German soldiers started becoming standard only by the Western campaign of 1940. There will be a rather limited number of models wearing them in the final version.

But we do have some things right already; on the shoiulder tabs you can see some digits, back then it was inherited from older Reichswehr regulations and still common to display the regiment's number. During Polish campaign soldiers tended to cover those for security reasons, as from the distance one could be mistaken for an officer and become an easy target for Polish marksmen.

I noticed that, looks quite good in game. There is a famous photograph of the 1st SS Leibstandarte-AH during the initial stages of the invasion with their insignia covered in such a way. Some have suggested the touch-ups were done after the photograph was taken, but it is known that this was common practice in the field and for good reason.

I have spoken to a friend of mine yesterday evening and he did shed some light on the issue of no collar tabs on regular infantrymen too (one that was raised some pages ago). He was quite sure it was a practise perforemd for the very same reason. German, white collar tabs stood out too much and were supposingly simply sewn off by soldiers. An interresting theory. Don't know where to look for evidence supporting this. thruth is though that Polish infentrymen entered combat in plain khaki, without any collar tabs, patches or insignia, usually worn...Maybe the Germans took example of it during the campaign, but - if so - why was this not the case during Fall Gelb and later periods? Anyway, our models will have collar tabs after all, with regiment alliegance covered only.

As for progress; Vilas has done some today bringing a greatly updated version of the recently shown MG34 ingame, as well as Walther P08, MP38 and three variants of the Mosin rifle (to be used by Polish KOP 'borderland guards" and regular Soviet RKKA). I'll wait for the author to present the WIP screens himslef, showing only a teaser of a weapon that just a few privilleged WH soldiers were to carry during the campaign, a weapon that would become iconic for the whole world war that just started...

Topas quick question, are we going to see some kind of sniper units on both sides?

Now I know that Polish Army had around 1100 Mausers ready to be used with old german telescopic sights to be used by snipers, but its difficult to find any further information on Snipers in 1939 and I know that marksmen were trained to use the kb ppanc wz.35. But are there any chances that you might add snipers?

but probably like with Mors SMG, Maroszek gas operated rifle sniper rifles were not ready or not issued , but in Armaversum many things are possible,

but year 1939 is only a part, i hope some units will be also for uprising '44 (Blyskawica smg) + AK (Homeland Army) partizans

Yes, it has been stated few times already troughout the topic that it'd be our wish to make post'39 units and settings too. Once we finish the three factions complete with gear and weaponry it wont be difficult to make partisans using the assets available. Basically it'd be guys in Polish '39 uniforms mixed with some German gear, weapons, parts of clothing (partially civilian too - preferably like these guys maybe). Easy to make (just as this soldier of the Polish People's Army 1943-1945 I quickly made just for fun using our '39 infantry and Lodu's ca.42 Soviet gear). Making the Polish Army in the east is something what I'd also like to happen someday. Plus is, we would not have to make the Germans for it; Invasion'44 ones would fit perfectly as oponents.

But for now, focus on 1939 is first priority.

As for the snipers; No solid evidence exists that such units were actually used during the campaign on the Polish side. German sources claim units to come under fire from 'snipers', but it was probably just a figure of speech. Truth is though that scoped Mausers were in use... See: here

Anyway; a scoped version of a Mauser rifle, with a PZO sight is already present in the pack Vilas is currently overhauling, I'm sure it'll make it's way into the new revised weapons pack too. Speaking of Vilas' work:

I love your work guys! If you need some references for german groups, take a look here: http://www.wwiidaybyday.com/kstn/kstnmain.htm (it's im german, but it's quiet easy to understand, even if you are not a native speaker)

For example the TO&E for the Schützenkompanie A or the Maschinengewehrkompanie A of an infantry battalion.

On this page you can find some information about the polish TO&E, but I don't know how accurate they are.

maybe in the future if you are going to make updates or other ww2 polish mod it would be an idea to make the 1st independent polish parachute brigade who fought in Arnhem (and Driel (missed the DZ)) I mean everyone is busy with world war 2 America but it would be really cool if there was an Gemeente Renkum (includes Arnhem OOsterbeek WOlfheze Driel Wageningen and other places from OPeration Market Garden) anyway here is some info and pics

During Operation Market Garden, the brigade's anti-tank battery went into Arnhem during the third day of the battle (19 September), supporting the British paratroopers at Oosterbeek. This left Sosabowski without any anti-tank capability. The light artillery battery was left behind in England due to a shortage of gliders. Owing to bad weather and a shortage of transport planes, the drop into Driel, was delayed 2 days, to the 21 September. The British units which were supposed to cover the landing zone were in bad situation, and out of radio contact with the main Allied forces.[1] Finally the 2nd Battalion, and elements of the 3rd Battalion with also the support troops from the brigades Medical Company, Engineer Company, and HQ Company were dropped under German fire East of Driel. They overran Driel, after it was realised that the Heveadorp ferry had been destroyed. In Driel, the Polish Paratroopers set up a defensive "Hedgehog" position, from which over the next two nights further attempts to cross the Rhine were made.

The following day, the Poles were able to produce some makeshift boats and attempted the crossing. With great difficulty and under German fire from the heights of Westerbouwing at the northern bank of the river, the 8th Parachute Company and later additional troops from 3rd Battalion, managed to cross the Rhine in two attempts. In total about 200 Polish Paratroopers made it across in two days, and were able to cover the subsequent withdrawal of the remnants of the British 1st Airborne Division.

On the 26th of September 1944, the brigade (now including the 1st Battalion and elements of the 3rd Battalion, who were parachuted near to Grave on September 23) was ordered to march in the direction of Nijmegen. The brigade had lost 25% of its fighting strength, amounting to 590 casualties.[1]

The 1st (Polish) Independent Parachute Brigade was a parachute brigade under command of Maj.Gen. Stanisław Sosabowski, created in Scotland in September 1941

Market Garden eventually saw the unit sent into action supporting the British 1st Airborne Division at the Battle of Arnhem in 1944.The Poles were initially landed by glider from the 18 September, whilst due to bad weather over England, the Parachute section of the Brigade was held up, and jumped on the 21 September at Driel on the South bank of the Rhine. The Poles suffered significant casualties during the next few days of fighting, but still were able, by their presence, to cause around 2,500 German troops to be diverted to them for fear of supporting the remnants of 1st Airborne trapped over the lower Rhine in Oosterbeek.
