A dedicated gamer... gaming with disabilities

Recommended Posts

Since I'm a member at OCUK I thought I would share this thread with the rest of you, it's pretty amazing.

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18236540

The story is of a man who has a disability to use his arms, thus uses his chin to control computer games he plays. Read through some of the thread and try support him, he's unable to play Dead Space 2 due to custom controls not being implemented.

The post has already gone viral... with a few other websites now listing him, some with entire news articles on it!

Wow.. This story hits very close to home.

I definitely wish this guy the best of luck and hope there is something that can be done to help him out. My Brother was in an accident about 13 years ago and is now c4 Quadriplegic (he has limited movement in his arms ((Very very limited)) with NO control of his hands and fingers) :(.

However he still plays games (all the time) as thats one of the few things he can do. My prayers go out to all who suffer from disabilities and I hope understanding comes to those who have none!

Good post btw,

Cheers!

Thats some great driving, i cant help thinking that a track IR device could allow him to play action games alot better but its not enough..

If companies created gaming input devices for people with these types of disabilities then software developers would be likely to ensure compatbility atleast..

Was reading some articles on the PC Gamer website when I came across this:

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/02/22/blind-gamer-completes-abes-exoddus-using-sound-alone

After having played so many games where sound is severely neglected in favor of graphics, I can understand the importance of good sound design even more.
