US Army 2003 - BETA release. (OA)

Recommended Posts

OA.. read the readme if you want to know why.

So yeah, I thought maybe i would wait until they're all pretty as can be, but right now i want feedback, and on a larger scale than a few select testers. So here it is , weather you like it or not.

I apologize for such a lame, half-assed SS in the dark.. You can find them under the editor as "2003 the few" or something.. I can't remember lol.

arma2oa_2011_01_27_00_16_06_35.jpg

about & readme (God dammit, read it!) edit: stupid word wrap. It looks fine in notepad. sorry about the odd formatting.

US ARMY 2003

Introduction:

US Army 2003 units for ArmA 2: OA by fox '09 / fox /

fsfchannel. These are US Army soldiers for ArmA 2 based on

deployment photos and info from 2003-2004 in Iraq or

Afganistan.

Index (WOW an index! how cool.)

1 - How to install

2 - Units

3 - Plans and Known issues

4 - Credits

5 - closing

1.

Installation instructions can be found here thanks to

armaholic:

http://www.armaholic.com/plug.php?e=faq&q=18

If you are like myself and others, you're probably not going to

read this at all and are gona be throwing it in a modfolder

anyway. So yes, it's like any other addon.

Once again, it REQUIRES OA. Not because it really requires

it (it's standalone) , but because I want you lazy bums to get a

job and buy CO. I will not support ArmA 2, it is not the

current standard for communities.

2.

2-1 (Loadouts)

Please excuse this version's loadouts. They are rather slap

dash , I hate configgery. Next update will include improved

loadouts. Suggestions are welcome! In regards to ACE and

details, see section 3-1.

note: 'kits' have little meaning right now. This does not mean

model, but rather what they are armed with.

NO ADDONS:

Rifleman: M16A2, standard kit.

Rifleman2: M14 aimpoint, standard kit.

Squad Leader: M16A2, standard kit.

Team leader: M16A2, standard kit.

Machinegunner: M240G, machinegunner kit.

Mounted Gunner: M4A1, light kit (Humvee gunner)

Medic: M16A2, medic kit.

ACE: TBA

2-2 (Information)

In regards to more unit variation, see planned section.

3.

3-1 (Planned)

Here are the released versions and future versions with plans

and comments.

1.0 - First Release

1.1 - Tucked in variants, done but belt isn't.

- More variants

- Improved loadouts

- ACE configs

- More res lods. I'm very sorry for the current release with

only 1 res lod, but it's a beta. Deal with it.

Planned:

1. Improved pants normals

2. Unit patches. 1st id probably, ps. (again) deal with it.

3. MOPP gear.

4. M65, with hood up and down variants.

5. More MOLLE gear variations

6. PASGT vest for a small portion of the units

7. Rolled up sleeves / cuffs

8. Helmet accesories

9. Camelbaks and rucks (preferably 3-day)

Maybe:

TBD...

ACE:

YES. There will be ACE configs. These units will be decked

head to toe in realistic loadouts. If there's 2 chemlights,

pouches for 6 mags, an IFAK and a plasticuffs, there will be 6

mags, 2 chemlights and plasticuffs in your inventory. This

will come in the future.

3-2 (Known Issues)

These are issues that WILL be fixed. Maybe not instantly but

unfortunately for those who are impatient, I work on my own

schedule.

1. Weighting. Especially on the pants pockets.

2. No res lods.. deal with it.

3. Normals on vest and helmet perhaps a bit too strong.

4. Boots inaccurate. I might not fix it, but don't cry about it.

4. (Credits)

First and foremost, I would like to thank the community, for

encouragement, help and motivation. That said, lets get

started on those who directly contributed:

Johannes. Jonny. The german jesus. A lot of the molle gear

and some misc stuff is his. The man also helped me a lot with

the creation of the models, textures, etc. Thank you bro.

BIS. Without them, these units would be... not here..? I used

some arma 1 sample models in the creation, although I

reshaped and reuvmapped all of the models, they obviously

still deserve credit and recognition. Thanks BIS!

CameronMcDonald: erry1's favorite aussie. Thanks for all

the help and encouragement dude. He's the guy who got me

started with all this addon making. Really.

StalkerGB: he knows why I'm thankful. Without him, my

units would be a big squiggly and twisted mess. Thanks dude!

NZDF CRASH: ok, he didn't really contribute, but he's still

an awesome dude and you may see some of his work in my

future publications.. love you XOXO

Dr. Midnight: He made the recon wrap, thanks dude. He also

worked closely with me but unfortunately life has taken its

turn with him. Wish you luck dude :)

Whiskey27: 1st id bomberman. Joke aside, he helped a lot

with the development from his criticism and encouragement.

thanks dude

Max Power and Soldier X: Although they did not really

directly contribute to my project, they helped me a LOT with

proportions and normal maps. thanks guys

Animalmother92: he's gona help me a bit with the crew.

You'll find out soon what he has to contribute!

A few shout outs: Snake_man from PMC. He got me started

with modo. Wooooo!

I really hope that's it, I truly apologize if you had

contributed to my project and was not recognized here.

Contact me using the methods at the conclusion and I can

correct my mistake.

5. (Closing)

Well, that was a mouthful. Thanks guys for the continued

support, I appreciate it. This was my first 'from scratch'

model, and I am very proud of myself for achieving

something like it. I would never of dreamed of this months

ago. (ok, somewhat, the body and other things were, but my

point still remains in my opinion)

In regard to licensing, you may not modify, copy, edit,

retexture, or re-release* any portion of this addon without my

strict consent. If you wish to do any of those, you MUST

contact me before doing so. Please don't steal, jesus is gona

send you to hell (but he still loves ya)

Peace. Fox '09

Fox just sucks at Screens, the textures are actually very high quality. Don't worry. :)

I have a few requests for the final release:

- Signed Addons (:))

- Full unit list (AA Soldiers, AT Soliders, etc)

- Comes with an optional replacement config (So we can replace ACU bitches)

well I meant just put them down there as classnames so we can use this pack as a replacement for the BIS ACU guys. I'd rather be looking at desert units in takistan rather than these grey uniforms that stick out from a mile away.

Fox nice units we need a saw gunner as well. Also troops with/without rucks as well. And a RTO guy. Looking forward to more.

Hmm okay, fixed that. :)

I got it from your readme. I guess you meant it as a changelog for a future version?

Looking good! Downloading now. These'll work great with Lennard's 2003 Marines. Love the sudden resurgence of retro units. ;)

What's up with that bloke with the M240B and an Elcan? Did the Elcan sights exist in 2003? Also, what's with the LWHs?

EDIT: I read the readme, silly me. :o

No, but it's either m240 or no mg at all. Ace version will obviously sport accurate weapons.

On the lwh, my helmet is wider and slightly differently shaped. But I will correct when I get around to some Pasgt vests for

Somalia / gulf war units

Awesome. Did the Mechanix-style gloves exist in 2003? Just seemed a little out of place. Anyway, great units. ;)

Sweet. Just wanted to know if they were around from January-March 2003, for Iraq invasion missions. Just want everything to be as accurate as possible. Anyway, thanks for the photo, mate. ;)

I'm pretty sure mechanix original gloves has been here for ages. I could go to some old green gloves, at least for some units.

Yeah, same here. Even if the Mechanix gloves did exist, the green gloves would be more commonplace. ;)

Anyway, could there be some sort of standardisation with the camouflage pattern(s) in the community? Just tried your 2003 U.S. Army units with Lennard's 2003 U.S.M.C. units and the patterns were slightly different in shade and texture.

absolutely not. Why? Every piece of cloth fades differently. If both addons were supposed to represent soldiers in BCT then sure, no problem heh.

If my units were based on more than 1 texture for the DCU's, every unit would have a slightly different shade.

I would like dat.

Like binkowski did with his US Army 2010(Unreleased for most) he had the pattern randomized for each unit, if you could do something like that it would add a new dimension of variation. :)

If not, no problem, just throwing it out there.
