Forcing the AI to shoot

I'm making a mission where the players will be advancing towards an enemy position, as they advance, I want the AI to be shooting RPG rounds off to make the mission feel all nice and tense and scary. Is there a way to force this to happen?

I'm currently using ace invisible targets and dofire, but it doesn't seem to be working.

I tend to use vehicle wreks or buildings dotted around, name them and have the enemy RPG men to target then fire at them.

Just another way that I have done that work like a charm with:

AI shooting objects

AI shooting civs

is to use addRating and tweek with maybe doTarget, works very well to have a firefight in distant or so.. had a missiontest with a convoy where you as a bluefor drove through a city and from the top of the house a insurgent arise with an RPG and blow up the truck.. fun times.. could be hard to have insurgent choose target even with doTarget if Bluefor is near, but have a distant and have addRating closer and you would be fine...

In a new betapatch they have gave doFire a new chance and said to have "fixed" it.. so maybe try that too; as it was broken in the past..
