representation of aligning the sights?

Recommended Posts

I find that firefights in arma 2 are far too quick because the player's accuracy is too high (the weapon barely sways, and you can line up accurate shots too quickly). I was wondering if it would be possible to make a mod that represents lining up your sights in an abstract way. Kind of like in battlefield- when you bring up your sights what you aim at is not exactly what you hit. To be accurate you have to wait a little while first (representing the time it takes to line up the sights).

There would be an accuracy bar on the screen showing how aligned your sights are. if the bar is 100% full 100% you hit precisely what you shoot at. 50% may mean that your shot will land within maybe a 2 metre radius of where you aimed. Over time your "accuracy bar would fill up as your avatar lines up the sights.

If you are prone and have not moved or shot your accuracy bar will be at 100% meaning that whatever you aim at you will hit. If a bullet snaps past you however your accuracy bar will decrease to maybe 75 percent. Now your shot would land somewhere within a metre radius of where you aimed representing the fact that your avatar has flinched and the sights are no longer aligned resulting in an inaccurate shot. Eventually (1 or 2 seconds maybe) the accuracy bar would fill up to 100% as your avatar realigns the sights.

I think this would make shooting a lot more difficult, suppressive fire more useful and result in longer more realistic firefights.

Would it be possible to make a mod that does this. If so how hard would it be for a total newbie like me who just got the the game a week ago and knows nothing about making addons?

What you saying actually make sense, and while i don't actually agree with the implementation(especially the visual steady bar) you are suggestion, the end results might be just what you want: prolonged firefights, where suppresive fire actually plays a role in it.

One option would be a variable level of 'sway', such that just after firing/moving your weapon sways more, then when static for a while it quietens down

Don't know how possible that is though, given that I imagine sway is a weapon-dependent config

So this an addon/mod in request hidden in a discussion again.

For addon making and mod work search thru the editing thread of the forums for tutorials and how to post. Armaholic has a nice section also on addon making and scripting.

Might want to also read forum rules to avoid making new guy mistakes about posting in wrong spots.

And you sir ahould read the rules on spamming the forum, the 'report this post' button is there for a reason.

I like the idea, the system works quite well in project reality and i would love to see something familiar/better implemented in ArmA. I must admit i always feel a little detatched when shooting in arma as it is a little too easy. High Dispersion addons sort of emulate it but that just feels a bit cheap..its too random. Hope you find the motivaition to have a crack at it.

A nice idea right there, though if the sights are visually non-aligned then there would be no need for any sort of progress bar. Then it would be up to the shooter to watch his sights and shoot when they have lined up. :)

I would love to see a system like this in Arma2, although I don't believe it would be possible to mod in. This would appear to be something the devs would have to implement.

A feature request on the bug tracker, containing a well structured description and ideally some example images would probably be the best approach to catch dev attention.

As you can see even tho he posted in the wrong section I answered what he needed to know and were to go to get the info he needs to start working on addons. How would that be considered spam? As for the report button why would I do that to new member looking for help? He stated he is new and wanted proper guidance. That button is for when racial slurs and out right offensive stuff is posted. You might want to follow the same advice and reread the rules yourself.

His idea has merit but is still in wrong section of forums. A small config addon will keep the weapon swaying there are also addons to increase the dispersion on player and ai weapons.
