ARMA 2 freezes during gameplay

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have been a fan of the Operation Flashpoint and ARMA game and I quite enjoyed this latest edition, the only thing that is bothering me is that the game freezes and the audio also freezes when I play but this does not occur all the time like maybe 3 out of 5 games will do so and usually within 15 mins of playing. The freezing up is so bad that I have to manually restart the PC as alt + ctrl + delete does not work at all. Sometimes strange artifacts appear on screen as it freezes otherwise in other times it just simply freeze up.

Can someone tell me what is going on and how do I fix it?

My computer spec is a CORE2DUO 2.4ghz, 4 gig Kingston RAM, Geforce 8800 GT graphics card and a 250 gig WD HDD.

Find out what the temps are for your cpu and graphics card, to make sure they are not overheating, as overheating will cause freezes, and ctd's.

sounds like it could be your GPU but cant say for sure.

What games are you playing and what patches have you applied?

Dwarden never sleeps^^

Check your pc for dust, it can block the air and your pc will overheat, resulting in crashes.

Yeah i'm getting the same issues, games is freezing constantly, it's becoming unplayable. At first i thought it was the mods i had running. So i removed all of them and it's still happening. I then toned down my Graphics settings although it has always been fine the way it was. And still happening although not as bad. Since the last few beta patches something has changed the game. I understand that while patches fix some things they can disrupt another. And i fully appreciate all the hard work you guys put in. So i still love you....cough!

I haven't played for a while but i've got the latest patch although it was doing it with the beta but i didn't think much of it as i wasn't playing it much until this morning. My game install is on a separate drive with 101 Gig of free space. I've had no hardware changes recently. The usual software is running in the background that i normally have running. It ain't my temps and my GPU/CPU is not overclocked. And it ain't dust as i clean my Pc with a compressor on a regular basis. I'm a geek! ;)

Although i now have my settings on normal it is not stuttering as it was previously. I find Terrain and Object detail on High causes more stuttering but i never had this problem previously. I could run majority of the settings on high without problems, view distance is about 2500. It still doesn't seem to be very fluid though, but it is bearable.

Running ArmA2 OA, BAF & PMC all updated with latest Patches!

My system is a Core 2 Duo E8400, Asus GTX460 1Gig, 4Gig DDR3 Ram, Mainboard P5Q3 Deluxe, Driver version 260.99, Win7 x64.

I have the freezing too, but it also happens in other games.

Thing is the issue is not only known among the GTX 460, but also the whole Nvidia 400er series GPUs:

Apart from that they also have stutters in diverse games with the current drivers. So much for Nvidia and having no issues...

EDIT: I know the OP has an 8800er, I'm a bit astonished about that...

Is it laptop computer? If so, than you probably have overheating issue. Laptops reduce power automatically in case of high temperature.

Hi, I had the same problem with freezing game. But i solved it this day! It was caused by graphic card fan speed! I have Nvidia G-Force GTS250 and i had set dynamic fan speed. When i started playing Arma, graphic card automatickly boost fan rotation and game froze. So I set only 35% of fan rotation (speed) and now i can play the game without any freezing! Try it, it may also help you. It helped me.:bounce3:

Excuse my English.

I am getting exactly the same thing but only in one mission. I am using an nvidia 260 gtx but i always increase the fan speed to 100% using ntune.

All fixed. My cpu and/or gpu was overheating. Blasted it with compressed air to get every last bit of dust out and now all is good.:)

Download Ntune. This will let you adjust the fan speed. Mine is meant to automatically speed up or down the fan but it doesn't for some reason, i have to manually do it in Ntune.

Hi all,

I had this freezes, too. I have A2, AO , BAF, PMC with the latest Patches. This freezes started after i installed Arrowhead and the DLC's over my existing A2 installation.

My System:

Asus P6T

Intel Core i7-920 2.66GHz

Corsair XMS3 12GB DDR3-1333

Samsung 1TB HDD

Nvidia GeForce 8800GT Dual-SLI (v260.99)

Windows 7 64-bit

I have no problems with high temperatures (controlled by RivaTuner for both graphic cards) or similar issues in other games...i can play every other game with high-settings....

Hopefully the BIS-Guys find this issue..

regards

yeah the game freezes up, out of memory error if your lucky, or just a A2 has quit working error, but alot of just hard locks.

Been this way for whole 1.57's series, and started in one of the last two 1.56 betas.

Happens to everybody i play with(everybody). But its a 4hr to 6hr time limit. Did all the Drivers ,OS reinstall, Game reinstall Hardware changes ect ect.. but the game WILL crash after 4hrs to 6hrs everytime.... I guess its related to the larger address aware, or cache?

I have the same problem. It freezes during mission 2 in the campaign. I cant play any longer then 60 sec. I'm not sure what version i'm running but I'm downloading 1.57 at the moment. I have check my temps for all pc parts & all is running fine. My PC is more then enough to run ARMA II. I have tried a fresh install of Windows 7 64 and then a fresh install of ARMA II OA, & yet the problem still remains. I will install 1.57 tonight and try that but I dont think it will change anything by the sounds of all the other posts I have read. If anyone has the answer please let me know. I'm about to though this game out.

I had similar issues after upgrading a lot of hardware...sadly..heres what I determined it was.

I upgraded CPU cooler, GPU +1, New HDD, RAID 0

Discovery : arma 2 is VERY heavy on your page file. It simply refused to work on my RAID drives...crashed randomly, sometimes reloaded entire scene beforehand. So I upped my page to 9 gigs, moved it to a standard SATA drive, and presto, no problems...

I think it might not like RAID...sadly.

So make sure ur page file is big...available...and not on a RAID drive.

I only recently started playing Arma2, I had freezing problems in the first night mission in Harvest Red. I have the game on Steam. I tried verifying my game files through Steam but it didn't fix the freezing.

I restarted the game (Combined Operations) disabled the Dayz mod which was still enabled, I restarted the game, the loaded back up and restarted the mission and I haven't had a freeze since.
