Ether Dragon 0 Posted May 9, 2002 I spent a lot of time on this mission, saw a lot of outcomes, and I think I've found the best darn approach to the mission yet. I spent some time leafing through other posts about the mission via the search feature, but I didn't find this approach in any of it. In fact, most of the others count on dumb luck in at least part of their planning (zig-zagging to avoid enemy fire or some such element.) Mine is pretty darn solid by comparison. So, here we go. 1.) Start out by changing your default gear. My load-out consisted of the M-21 sniper rifle, a LAW with two rockets, and two extra M-21 magazines (total of six.) You could keep two satchels and forego the LAW, but I suggest the extra clips in case you're not the best shot with the rifle. =) 2.) You start by the road with the gate to the compound in view. A truck drives past. Take a few steps to your right (south) and get into a firing position. In about thirty seconds, a T-72 is going to roll up. Shoot the tank commander (he's on the tank's right side.) He always took two shots, even though the first was a head shot. The gunner doesn't bother to duck, so shoot him next. Then shoot any guards you can. Once you sniper the tank crew, I think you've won the game (well, almost.) 3.) Cross the road and head towards some woods to the south. Keep an eye on that gate and the road around it. You should get the chance to sniper an officer with NV and another guy. I think it's worth waiting for their arrival before continuing, otherwise they'll start searching the fenceline. 4.) When you exit the woods, kill the two tower guards on this side of the road. Head south to the beach and circle around the fence. 5.) Heading back north, stay a little ways from the fence, perhaps 50-75 meters. Keep an eye out, as two more guards, one an AT soldier, will be heading along the fenceline. I met them while about halfway up the hill, fell in behind them, and shot them both. If you chose satchel charges instead of a LAW, you now have access to an RPG. I suggest you switch - you can come back for the satchels later. 6.) Head back to the gate, now that you're inside the perimeter. I was worried about a BMP that sounded like it had taken up position somewhere nearby, but I couldn't find it. Instead, I found that the tank driver had popped his head out of the hatch. Shoot him, grab the tank, and run it SE towards the hill top. *Make sure to occupy each tank position at least once. This clears out all of the dead crewmen. Until you do, you won't be able to switch tank positions without first exiting the tank! 7a.) Next, find some bushes on the hill overlooking the enemy base. You probably won't be able to see the entire base, but that's not important just yet. The entire SE side will be visible, to include the two Hinds and the Shilka. Sniper the Shilka and Hind crews before any other targets - at least one of each. That will keep them from using their vehicles (against you.) 7b.) After that, sniper to your heart's content. The only thing I did was avoid shooting when the BMP that patrols between the house and base was near the base, and looking towards the hill. Don't forget the two guards in the north towers of the base. 7c.) Sniper anyone you see around the base, too. I saved them for last, however. Of particular interest are AT soldiers, you have a tank at your disposal, remember. 8.) Seven was in three parts because there's something you have to keep in mind. There's a BMP somewhere on the hill behind you. Like I said, I never found him, but more often than not your sniping will eventually draw it's attention. When you hear it coming, make sure you're in those bushes. I almost got run over a couple times, and if you fear the same, feel free to move aside as it approaches. It's nearly blind in the dark. Once it's past you, use your LAW or RPG to shoot it in the rear. 9.) Now you've done it! Blowing up the BMP sends everyone to high alert. The Hind will take off...um, wait no crew. The Shilka is going to charge after you...wait, no crew either. Ah, well there IS another T-72, and he's pretty darn mad, but it takes him a couple minutes to get from his current location (NE of the house) to the hill. Head for your own tank and wait for his arrival. *Note, that patrolling BMP will keep to it's normal route. 10.) None of the armor has any night vision. When that tank does show up, depending on where your own tank is placed, it won't see you. Instead, it'll park somewhere near where you had fired the LAW from. I actually had to move my tank into view of it in order to fire. It never saw me coming until it's turret was ablaze. 11.) Move a little bit more if you have to and shoot the BMP on patrol. 12.) If you haven't already done so, finish killing the soldiers near the base. I used the sniper rifle, but feel free to use the tank if you want. 13.) Believe it or not, you're now in control of a T-72, a Shilka, TWO Hind helicopters, a truck, and a jeep. Don't you feel special? I drove the tank down to the base and hopped into a Hind. 14.) There's a Shilka on the NE corner of the island somewhere near the water's edge. As soon as you get a target on it (it'll probably light you up a little first,) hit TAB to get a lock, and shoot it with an AT-6 or two. I'm a safety nut, I landed back at the base and grabbed the healthy Hind before continuing. 15.) I used the Hind to wipe out the remaining troops in the region. I used the spot light and my NV as needed to pick out all the troops. If you're not comfortable flying the Hind (and it can be tricky with the steep slopes surrounding the area,) you got a Shilka and T-72 to play with, too. I feared AT soldiers more than hills, however. 16.) When you feel safe enough, land by the house, grab the documents, get back in your vehicle of choice, and bug out. Perhaps the most hair raising portion of this mission plan is the BMP coming for you on the hill while you're snipering. I think it's important to note that about 50% of the time it never made an appearance. If that's the case, the second tank won't show up either. In that case, it might behoove you to sneak down into the base after killing all the guards rather than driving the tank. That way you can get a Hind in the air without worrying about shot by either vehicle during the chopper's wind up. The alarms will likely kick in once you mount the chopper. Once you're airborn, your only threats (besides the ground) will be the Shilka and the T-72. I didn't have any problem killing both with AT-6's.
Guest Titanium Posted May 10, 2002 I prefer just taking the HK, 1 satchel, 2 laws and heading N around the fence, running to the house. Going along side it and hauling ass in. I steal the documents and take my time picking guys off out the windows. Bmp's come, I law them. After that, I set a satchel in the house, set the time to 30 seconds and get out. This takes care of anyone who decides to come after you when you exit the house. The house blows, and you are home free. Leave the way you came in and on your way out snipe the garud in the garud toed near the fence. The head down to the dust off site. Easy and effective

Only chance is to snipe from the balcony but that's a lethal place to do it.
Ether Dragon 0 Posted May 10, 2002 I consider that too "up close and personal." Snipering from the hill and using the HIND keeps you as safe as you can possibly be, which is much of my point: minimize risk by controlling your exposure to enemy fire.
SpaceAlex 0 Posted May 10, 2002 The best way is to take 9 clips of HK, go through the forest on the beach and skip the fence, sneak to Guba's house from the back, sneak into the house, steal the documents, get out, kill a few soldiers next to the base, steal a chopper and destroy everything around. Or you can just escape without stealing the chopper.
cybrid 0 Posted May 12, 2002 I wish I thought to steal the hind but it looked like there was way too many soldiers around that area (I didn't really get a clean veiw though). My only kills were a BMP and a few soldiers around the house. I snook in by setting a stachel charge near a gaurd tower. This caused the tower to be destroyed (and the soldier on top). After that a BMP came around and I hit it with an LAW. From there it just took a hell of a lot of crawling untill I got there and then I ran my ass of on the way back. Maybe I'll play it again. Ether Dragon 0 Posted May 13, 2002 It was my experience that once I was in a chopper, no one would fire on me unless they had some kind of anti-tank weapon. Another reason to pay special attention to AT soldiers in the area. Once you lift off, the only enemy that will fire at you will be Shilkas and tanks. BMP's and even other choppers will just suffer your presence until you put them out of their misery. That's why I chose to use the HINDs instead of either the tank or Shilka - fewer possible enemies to return fire. Being that it's dark out, it's harder to spot AT soldiers coming in from patrol to shoot you until it's too late. Also, if you're driving a ground vehicle, you have to transfer from driver to gunner in order to fire any weapons. All that time spent messing around with finding the guy shooting you, and dealing with the dissorientation of position changes can only help the AT soldier to reload that RPG...how many hits can you take? Ether Dragon 0 Posted May 16, 2002 </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (SpaceAlex @ May 13 2002,16:57)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"><span id='postcolor'> I'm rather proud of my patience in a sniper role, but when it comes to using the H&K, I just can't do it. You basically have to sit and study every unit's route and then tie them all together in order to figure out the perfect timing and kill order. You have to spend a bunch of time waiting to discover the long patrol routes of some units. In your scouting, you have to identify any hidden units that can only be seen from certain directions. You also have to know your own capabilites down to a science - how fast you can run, walk, or crawl. How much to lead targets at a particular range and speed, etc. Any mistake, and the alarms will go off and the troops will come running. I just don't have the patience to learn the game down to that kind of level. It's bad enough that I've learned the AI's likely actions enough to exploit them as much as I have. I've always detested games that require you to replay a mission over and over and learn every nuance and sequence of events just to win. Like most of OFP's missions, there's a lot of stuff going on around you. This one is particularly challenging in it's frustration level by suggesting you sneak into the house and steal the plans without being discovered. The first time I crept up to the house, got spotted, and had about twenty new troops BLINK into existance, I decided it was time to take control of the mission rather than let it dictate what I do. =) No, my plan isn't the only way to do the mission, but I think it's the least frustrating, most enjoyable, and most likely to succeed that I've yet seen. I realize that people have mentioned how they snuck up without firing a shot, but I don't recall having seen anyone post detailed steps on how they went about getting there. You know, how they waited for the guard by the rock to turn his back, the guy by the tent to scratch his but, and then ran to bush such-and-such. Until someone wants to do that, and I'm not throwing down the glove or anything, I feel that my plan offers the best potential.
SpaceAlex 0 Posted May 16, 2002 I feel my plan is the most exciting, fun and realistic. General Guba would probably change the position of the rocket if he would noticed that someone was in the base. But only in real life. You can sneak into Gub'as house without being noticed. Patrols are walking around the house. Hide in a bush when they come close to you. sneak into the house when the area is clear. Take the documents and escape. If u want more fun, steal the hind and destroy everything around. Like me. Very easy. I completed original campaign more than 5 times. I played that mission over and over again and i found that it's much more fun to just sneak into the base without being noticed. But that's just me.

cybrid 0 Posted May 25, 2002 Is it possible to kill a tank crew <while they are turned out> and then steal the tank? I have been able to kill the gunner and commander but when I run up to the tank I don't have any "get in" options.
Random 0 Posted May 25, 2002 If you shoot the driver, the others will disembark and try to get back in. So if you shoot them when the jump out, you can grab the empty tank. Unfortunately, the driver is the hardest to hit since he only has a small head that's visible from outside.
cybrid 0 Posted May 25, 2002 I don't think so, I once shot the driver then the gunner turned the turret and shoved a shell up my ass! He must have seen the flash from my M21 because i have no idea how he saw me.
itchy_trigger 0 Posted May 31, 2002 For me the best way was the sneak up way. Head up to the far north end of the map. Then head west through the beach. Climb the hill that Guba's house is through the north. I save the mission then wait for the patrol in prone position and take them all out. Watch the movement of the BMP and position yourself west from the house take out the guards and enter the house. The alarm goes off, kill the guard inside the house and hide on the far east room in prone. Kill any gurad the enters the room. If you can see a tank positions it self just outside the room. I ussualy plant a satchel charge next to it. If you wait long enough the soldiers outside woder off looking for you. Crwal down th hill (west) and blow the charge. Then run back the way you came in. I know it sounds complicated but its rather easy.
HellToupee 0 Posted June 5, 2002 i did it in the days of underwater abilty i snekaed in got the docs and ran out like crazy zig zaging as u mite got to the beach and ran under the water back home.
Modo 0 Posted June 5, 2002 I did this damn mission everyway imaginable and the only tried and true way for me was to sneak up to the house. I used the HK and LAW +2 and xtra HK mags. I would crawl through the front gate and go left through the trees. Then run to the base of the hill that the house sat on watching for BMPs and patrols. Once there I snuck into one of the tents and took out the standing guards and the small patrol after the large patrol moved into the house. I ran in behind and took everyone out inside. No alarm sounded. Ran upstairs and started sniping with the HK. The alarm finally sounded and I picked everyone else off bobbing and weaving throughout the house. I took out the BMP through a window. Finally soldiers stopped coming so I snuck around the back of the house and let the Tank have the last round of my LAW. This doesn't kill it so I marked a down RPG and took it out with that from some bushes. Once the coast was clear I hauled as back to the main gate by the way I came. Took out the tank crew from behind, a tower guard and a patrol outside the gate and hauled ass home. I did this succesfully 2Xs. I tried every other way proposed and could never make it. Either the BMPs or tanks would run me over or shoot me and if they didn't kill me they would smash my cover and leave me open to fire. If I LAWed them this exposed my position and the soldiers would mow me down. Maybe it is just me but trying to take a tank crew out is near to impossible unless you do it from behind and then sneak around and take out the driver. This can only be achieved with an HK because if you use the M21 as soon as you snipe one the other two button down.
Hidden 0 Posted June 11, 2002 Sneaking in, stealing the docs and getting back to evac without being spotted is the coolest way IMO. Stealing docs comes first, but anyway.. Rushing in, playing Rambo and killing everything in sight is probably fun, I know, but sneaking in is a lot MORE fun (to me, that is). If the alarm goes off when you are sneaking towards the house, you jump like 10feet from the chair I do the "kill´em all" thing when spending hours and hours trying to do a mission right. When I -finally- get it done, I sometimes hate the enemies so much, doing the mission again only this time killing each and everyone is pure pleasure If the mission is not too hard, I usually give them a second chance, though.. *cough*. The doc mission is not the most difficult one.. Run down to the beach and cross the fence there, no need to blow up anything. Use your eyes and ears, there are 3 patrols around the house AFAIR + 72´s and an BMP down at the beach not far from the house. Notice all enemy movement patterns so that you know where they are at all times. I hid in the bushes outside the house, the guards almost stepped on my fingers before I picked the most appropriate moment to sneak into the house. I did grow a bit older during that mission.. After a few *cough* liar, MANY! *cough* tries, I managed to sneak all the way in, steal the docs, sneak out and back, no-one ever noticed. Sure, if you prefer to crush all resistance with big toys, be my guest, I am not saying you have to sneak in, but you are supposed to anyway.

immontim 0 Posted July 2, 2002 Hi, You guys listed a lot of interesting ways to complete this mission. For myself, I like the crawl-with-minimal-violence -approach, but I have one problem: the mission won't end! After moving around the fence by north coast, I went to the house, got in, stole the docs. Alarms sounds, I need to kill some guards (varies how many at each repeat play), then wait for rest of the guards to wander of in search. Then I move back to the evac point (near the insertion point, is that correct?) also by going around the fence via north coast. But the mission does not end! I have spend ages crawling and running around cc-46, cc-47 and other nearby coordiantes, no help. What should I do? Does anyone else have this problem? TIA, Timo
Frisbee 0 Posted July 13, 2002 My approach was more stealthy too. Took along HK,satchel and 2 LAW's. Went north around the fence, using the guards in the towers for target practice Ran from bush to bush till i was on teh hill facing the back of the house. Five or so guards will walk past it to your right,by the time they're there you've had the time to go to the side of teh house (they just walk past) when they're standing still just mow them down clean and simple. Peep over the corner, kill officer at the tents, reload HK. Wait for the night eq. officer to come out of the house (laying prone at the side, looking ebyond the corner to the dorway),kill him, walk in,take documents, kill oposition in there if needed (probably not). Get out, start pegging it to the extraction the way you came (placing a satchel next to the house to discourage any pursuit). Blow it up when you're back at the base of the hill, home free. Well, that's how *I* did it,first try, took LAW's as insurance, will bring more satchels next time (or just not shoot anyone ) Really fun and tense mission. (btw,i did play on cadet mode so some things might be different in veteran, haven't tried that)
Fallom 0 Posted July 15, 2002 I killed everyone in the Hind base, stole a hind and got in the air a millisecond before a T80 fired on me. I then destroyed every tank I could find, and landed the hind. Then I got into the shilka, drove to Guba's house, and ran over everyone.
