There are no good reviews, only pre-paid advertisements as a part of the huge marketing which leads to a game selling a lot.

The scant information available at this point continues on saying Team Rainbow is facing a new threat called the True Patriots, who are a naughty revolutionary group claiming that “the American government is irrevocably corrupted by greedy politicians and corporate special interests.†Er. So it’s internal terrorism this time out, in what sounds a bit like Team Rainbow Vs. the Tea Party

:biggrin_o:

Rainbow vs the Radical Right eh? Doesn't sound like much of a challenge for 6 tho should be good for the lulz.

Laughed at the beginning, it really is a true to life simulation..always some darned company barging in to wreck the mood be it phone call or something else..

Had a "What?.." moment with the shooting officers, annoyed at the spotting system but figured that was just in place for testing purposes, had a laugh when the player jumped over that railing which without god mode would have killed him...was sort of with it all to the end.. I mean these guys are supposed to be specialists aren't they? Why did they just remove the jacket by other means... They didn't really save many lives in that firefight, maybe one guy in a cab who was told to stay down but the team didn't look as though they were in a better light either.

Was kind of hoping we'd stay in the eyes of the forced bomber for a while longer, maybe have a 'happy' or 'sad' ending based on your actions.

I am pretty disappointed by bf3 :(

I bought it because I have some real life friends who can't play Arma2 because they find it too hard and too realistic. So we all bought BF3 and I hoped it would be a good middle ground. Sadly my friends find it to be too boring and they die too much so they have stopped playing it. So I am left playing a game by myself which I didn't even want to begin with. I tried to get my money's worth from it, but I just find it really crappy. It has some great bits, the graphics are gorgeous and sounds amazing, and I have really enjoyed doing the co-op missions. Sadly there are only 6 of those... so I completed all of them on medium AND hard within a weekend.

All I have left is multiplayer and I just think it's not very good. Every step of the way, I just want to go back to Arma2. The tanks are stupid, and every time I get a vehicle and drive somewhere decent, and switch to gunner seat, some idiot jumps in my tank and drives it in to the nearest catastrophe. People treat everything as disposible.

The gunplay is good but all the maps are so small, there just isn't really any real gun battles. It's mostly just lots of people running around like headless chickens, and sometimes you get shot in the back, sometimes you shoot someone in the head, there is no real sense of having to survive or win an important firefight - nothing is important.

The biggest let down for me though, is the planes :( I played it to death to unlock all the addons, but you can only have 1 weapon at a time. So you EITHER have air to ground rockets, OR air to air missiles. The air to air fights ok at first but quickly become tedious and fake, and the air to ground sucks having only a cannon. If you pick air to ground rockets, you can do a little bit better, but now you can't shoot down planes or choppers unless you get them with your cannon.

The worst thing of all though, has to be the small maps. You fly for 10 seconds in any direction and you are out of bounds. Even on the ground, you can't really get a good position to snipe stuff or shoot with your tank. You can find an OK position on the edge of the map, but you are always going to be found pretty soon, and you have nowhere to run.

I find it very sad because if this was the only tactical shooter I would enjoy it. But compared to Arma 2, it just seems so limited, so restricted, so basic, so simplified, and generally like a childs version of the same game. I wish it had less hype and more people tried Arma2. The only thing really oustanding is the graphics, but even those.... they are highly detailed but I find that the overall picture is generally just as impressive in Arma2. I find Chernarus to be quite ugly, but Takistan... Mmm. I love the way that map looks.

@ Pummel

Forget about friends and games, it rarely fits (as rare as girlfriends and games). I bought the whole ArmA II & OA and DLC package for a friend just to find out that he hates it because he just dropped out into civil life after 12 years of military service and does not want to see any mlitary stuff anymore. He rather likes to play fantasy RPGs, well, I hate fantasy RPGs.

That's what the Internet is for...you find other interested payer whenever you log in onto a server...some might become friends, at least on FaceBook ;)

Yeah. Well I don't mind playing Arma2 without them anyway. It's just a shame because it would have been nice to play with them sometimes. But I blame Battlefield 3 because it's just really not very interesting imo. I just don't see the point! It's just guns, tanks, planes, and choppers, and all of those things are better in Arma 2. It's not even much easier, it just lacks depth. I vaguely remember playing Battlefield 2142 many years ago, but I found that more exciting. At least that had big rocket launchers and giant robots. BF3 has gone with boring realistic weapons but without the real warzones to make it exciting. Instead you are all just basically piled in to a square box and everyone runs around shooting wildly. Shame... Thank god for Arma2/3.

Battlfield 2142 rocks.

The problem is it never got the attention it deserves.

It's not pew pew lasers that many people [Who probably never bothered to play it] say.

The only lasers in the game is the AA which nobody really bothers to use anyways. Underpowered and tactically insignificant.

Weapons, vehicles and maps are very well balanced and the unlock system encourages teamplay.

It's one of the few games that a team of legit players can completely DESTROY a team of people using cheats. Teamwork and tactics are required to win.

* The demo however kinda blows. worst map of the bunch and without the the ability to keep unlocks it makes it worse.

Even the DICE guys admit that BF2142 is probably one of the best teamwork/tactical play wise games they have designed.

well the mortar part is just TOO easy. Being able to see everyone on the map based on the viewing angle of your own side (yes side, not squad), without the other having to actually spot them makes things dead simple for the mortar lad. I was able to actually turn around an entire game just by bombing the shit of the other side, and their own mortar lads

yes. i only play on hardcore, since i hate the 3d spotting/kill cam.

I hope dice to actually change the mortar issue with the first patch (would be ok if one would be able to see only the squad spotted units and would actually make sense) - as it is now, siene crossing is no go due to mortars being so effective, just as metro is stupid due to too many grenades and rpgs being fired each second

IMHO, the most serious problem right now is the 'sniper vs sniper' conflict that goes on.

Why they continue to omit class limits from the settings confuses me as the mass sniping absolutely ruins the game for other people. Of course there are snipers/marksman on the modern battlefield but why can't we limit it to 2 per side?

9 times out of 10, the reason I leave a match is because I get sniped one too many times while the objectives remain unchecked because there is no one to take them as the majority are busy sniping.

One of the best things DICE could have done is removed personal scores altogether and added class limits.

I always take support role and when I spot a sniper it's damn hard to do much about it because:

a) My squad is scattered all over the place - I usually tag along with a member if I can but it's very, very rare to be with more than one.

b) I find the accuracy of the LMGs I've tried to be awful at anything over 75m.

c) There's always another sniper.

For the most part agree with Pummels' assessment. Good looking/sounding game but feels like a cheap date that ain't that great in the sack.

I'm sure it'd be great as clan on clan with 1 life or how about a *gasps* 5 minute minimum respawn

As it is, everyone just runs/flys around pretty recklessly or goes the opposite route as the camping sniper. Feels good when your lucky enough to actually feel some team cohesion but that generally disintegrates in seconds.

Still pretty decent game overall but I just don't have that compelling feeling to load it up almost at all.

Sounds like it's the same gameplay as BFBC2, spawn die spawn die.... Snipers running around like assault class, I went from loving the game to absolutely hating it.

In the end I found I enjoyed team death match the most, because it wasn't a complete spawn fest, there was some feeling of out smarting your opponent.

Might just hold off on this title after all and get rage instead, looks more fun

Don't forget guys, you're complaining about BF3 on the Arma boards - just saying, the fact that you, we (me included) are rather disappointed by that Battlefield game, is a given, in many ways?

All the gameplay trailers before the release, and following the DICE programmers on Twitter made me excited too. I even thought "poor Arma-devs - if DICE goes for realism, they (Arma-devs) are screwed". But, far from it!

EA decided to go after the Call of Dummies/Modern Warfare xbox audience and there went my wish for more realism. True - as everyone here already said - the tech is quite amazing (DX11/Dynamic Sound) but still is a typical 'game engine' (with all the limitations).

Having to play (with idiots) online to be able to jump into a tank, jet or heli and senseless chicken-runs, spawn-death-spawn streaks, etc, etc ... I'm not 16 anymore. I played Quake a long time ago. The game 'can' be fun, if you play with friends - but again - coming from Arma, you will never be satisfied with fluff?

So I finally got a clan mate to play, and it is so much more enjoyable. Working as a two man team, especially when one of you is Assault with defibs is a blast. I can only think that a four man team would be excellent. As with ARMA its all about how you play it and who with.

JFYI, Rage SUCKS.

BF3 may not be perfect, but it is good fun for the most part. Rage lasted about an hour on my SSD and I fought STEAM tooth and nail to get a store credit because I was so utterly digusted by it.

Sorry for the OT
