Major Fubar 0 Posted May 9, 2002 The more addons, the better. Yes there will be crap, but surely you can download them and if it is no good, delete it... For instance, the recent mod that included an FBI agent with a SPAS-12 shotgun. I downloaded it, not because I want an FBI agent, but an SPAS-12 kicks ass. You just have to be selective. The only thing I hope is that people designing new missions & campaigns don't feel the need to put mods in every single one, just for the sake of them being there. I don't mind downloading 20MB of addons for a 30 mission campaign but I'll be damned if I'm going to do it for a single mission. And the more use they get the better. As for what addons should be made, variety is no bad thing if the end results are good. Why shouldn't somebody do Stormtroopers and Battle droids. Star Wars had infantry battles as well as space battles. Why shouldn't somebody recreate the Battle of Hoth if they want to. Nobody is obliged to play it if they think its silly. For me the only question would be have they done it well? Judging by Capt. Moore's battle droids theres no reason they shouldn't be able to do as good a job as any of the reality based mods. For me my greatest concern as I've expressed before is too much duplication or too much fragmentation. We already have two UH1s out there with more on the way. It seems this is asking for trouble if I'm going to require a different version of the same aircraft for each different mission I use. It would be nice if six months down the road somebody said THIS is the OFP UH1 and everybody should have it. At the other end why design a vehicle or uniform that was specific to some single division in one campaign during a six month period. It may add authenticity to one camaign or mission but what are the odds of it being used again? I don't design mods but if I did I would want to see them used. These things should be tools that should see use often, not art exhibits that are admired occasionally but never played with. Again, a while back, I suggested BIS should put together a 'best of the net' pack so that everybody could have a common ground for future mission design. It would mean a lot of stuff got lost but it could also get the best mods and addons much more widespread use than they may get otherwise.
RedLion 0 Posted May 9, 2002 Thank you kingbeast. By the way, I noticed that in your website you are a member of the cso clan. I am assuming the game Close Combat stikes a chord of endless stories.
dayglow 2 Posted May 9, 2002 It doesn't even have to BIS that does it. I don't know, but the OPFediting center website seems to be the center for this kind of thing. They could put one together and when a mission/campaign is released it could say it's "OFPEC" certified, meaning it uses only the addons they endorse, ie 1 UH-1, etc. COLINMAN
