Gritty, near future films...

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm trying to compile a list of gritty/near future/dark future sci-fi films for a Multimedia project. This is what I've got so far:

Aliens (1,2,3,4)

Bladerunner

Dark Star

Enemy Mine

Event Horizon

Ghosts of Mars

Inseminoid

Outland

Saturn 3

Screamers

Silent Running

Soldier

Starship Troopers

Supernova

The Fifth Element

Total Recall

(By near future I mean no "transporters", "warp drives" or mysterious energy weapons, if you know what I'm getting at)

Any suggestions?

sounds fairly complete to me...

BTW i LOVE those kind of films

there are lots of crap ones you could mention i guess,

like 'Judge Dredd' tounge.gif for instance

thats sort of similar (and what a waste of a good film license)

and there are plenty of budget , 'dark future' films (mostly rip offs)

some good , some bad

ive seen tens or hundreds -but im damned if i can remember any of their names biggrin.gif

Yes, Judge Dredd would fit very well (I didn't think it was quite as bad as most people did wink.gif )

I just thought of another one: Hardware

And I also enjoyed Judge Dredd.

Mad Max is 'gritty near future sci fi' as is 'The Road Warrior'

Mission to Mars would also sort of qualify, in a near future sci fi sort of way

What about "Brazil" (with Robert DeNiro and Michael Palin) or "Delicatessen" (french movie, it's from director Jean-Pierre Jeunet who also did "Alien 4" and "Amélie"). Good movies, dark future (well, the later one isn't really science fiction).

Cyborg 2087. tounge.gif

Does anyone remember the name of that android movie where this guy has a hot looking android (designed for pleasure) who breaks down and then he has to go find some spare parts? I believe the movie's name was something like 'Anna 276'. I can't remember what name and what number it was on the name and I really can't remember if it was a good movie or not. confused.gif

Oh, and how about Final Fantasy:The Spirits Within

I know I know, its sound dorky cause the rpg counterpart, but I dont really play rpg's and I thought it was a pretty good flick. What's most impressive about it though is how real it looks. I think I was hearing that it took something like a year just to render it. Wow!

Allready mentioned. "Salute of the Jugger" = "Blood of Heroes".

I forgot one, "Steel Dawn" with Patrick Swayze.
