mrcash2009 0 Posted December 2, 2010 (edited) Look, everyone is entitled to their opinion but, c'mon, mate - if you're going to start swearing, at least have the courtesy to censor yourself. :mad:Children are reading this forum and they don't need to hear about Q****s G****t this and D****n R****g that! Children grow up too fast these days anyway.. RiE LOL :D To clarify (sarcasm noted) I meant in terms of the PMC "private" angle content based IE its smells like it and that didn't get me worked up, not as in "its like that and that was crap" pure slur. I will get it, just not in a massive rush to compared to BAF of which I was a pre-order freak :) We will certainly be looking further at why some of our users are flagging up this problem.Zippers review mentioned about init of missions at the time of video run maybe causing the stutter, is it 100 percent spending resources on video and then pre load post video, or pre video, then run? Or is it actually trying to do both? Whats the codec and compression and format? Edited December 2, 2010 by mrcash2009
stun 5 Posted December 2, 2010 Is anyone else experiencing really poor performance in mission 1 (Inception) and and mission 4 (Confirmation) - my frame rate drops like a stone. I'm a bit surprised as my system is fairly decent - i7 @ 4ghz, 6gb ram and ati 5870. In the first mission I was getting a strange stutter that occured at regular intervals - I figured it must must be a script hammering my cpu as one of my cores was at 100% for the whole mission. Rooks80 10 Posted December 2, 2010 I took a while for this mission and I finished it under 9 minutes. It's a nice touch not to have to fire shots but it was way too short IMO. I really liked the change of pace - I spent 10 minutes on the roof scouting waiting for an attack, before figuring out what I was supposed to do  Just gave me more immersion thinking "I guess this is what providing security must be like"

CarlGustaffa 4 Posted December 3, 2010 They can't be unpacked, but they can still be refereneced right? I've never been able to do it. If you have the know how, then please share :) Some missions have voices and sounds I want to use without copying them, in order to keep the mission file size low. But for this one, it's only a SP mission where I couldn't care less about the size.
kylania 568 Posted December 3, 2010 Like to use the new GPS you'd use: ["ca\missions_pmc\data\ui_gps_ca.paa",-0.05,0.16] call bis_fnc_customGPS; or to use a loading screen from the main campaign you'd use: #define LOADSCREEN "\CA\Missions_e\campaign\missions\CE6_EyeOfTheHurricane.Zargabad\img\loading07_co.paa" So we'll have to find some way of getting the paths right, but you can reference main game files without having them in the mission file itself. rundll.exe 12 Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) I completely understand your concern; indeed, we did not design the campaign to be played without videos. We're sorry that you are experiencing playback issues - it appears to be dependent upon a number of factors at the user end, with different users encountering vastly different quality of experiences. This is not acceptable as far as I'm concerned, but, you've got to love the PC. ;) I know you'er an experienced user, so forgive me if I sound patronising by suggesting that the best advice at the moment is to de-fragment your HDD, to ensure data access is as efficient as possible for the playback. It's likely that dumping a DLC on top of Arma 2 can really push HDD I/O operations. It's possible that the videos themselves (which are .OGV format) can be played back in a standalone media player. We will certainly be looking further at why some of our users are flagging up this problem. Best, RiE Thank you for the tip, but unfortunately it doest help. I used contig on my windows and arma directories and the files were fragmented a bit (most important the video_pmc.pbo had 4 fragments). Although they were defragmented, the video still does not play smoothly. Since people with a SSD also report this issue, I have a feeling that file I/O isnt the problem, but that the CPU is overloaded with the game being loaded in the backround. Note that the first five seconds of the first video in the campaign play smooth (until the ION logo shows up in the sound wave and there is a big explosion sound) and then the rest of the video shows only ten frames or something, with 2 seconds pause between them, and sound breaking up. To find out if its a codec problem, I can recommend SHERLOCK a codec detective: http://www.updatexp.com/sherlock-codec-detective.html My output: Codec Reporting Utility Output Text ----------------------------------- Date and Time: 03-Dec-2010 10:43:12 System Information ------------------ Operating System = Unknown Professional (6.01.7600) CPU Descriptor = Intel® Core2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80GHz CPU Clock Speed = 2255 Mhz. EricM 0 Posted December 3, 2010 Have you tried video playback with exthread=1 o 0 ? I've read exthread=3 (new default) could be a killer on weaker dual cores.... might not be related though.
Speedle 10 Posted December 3, 2010 Am i the only one who thinks this DLC was worth it to see and hear the difference between what Tanny was saying and what was in the subtitles? :) You're not alone, mate XD
rundll.exe 12 Posted December 3, 2010 Have you tried video playback with exthread=1 o 0 ? I've read exthread=3 (new default) could be a killer on weaker dual cores.... might not be related though. Just tried both, and I don't see any difference. I had the impression it even got worse.
lo0se 10 Posted December 3, 2010 Children are reading this forum and they don't need to hear about Q****s G****t this and D****n R****g that! Yes, because we all know that kids log on to tactical military simulators on a daily basis..... Anyways, regarding the campaign... I'm really disappointed in it..I realize that its suppose to be about PMC and not military so they do things differently...but its too much run and gun....too close to COD...the story was kinda interesting...and I will admit that the first few missions were fun...but after that it just became very lame very quickly..few examples... WARNING CAMPAIGN SPOILERS Mission where you drive all the way across Takistan is really long, and really boring...I had to restart twice because the guy in the passenger seat would die and the driver wouldn't go anywhere When you first get to proving ground, you are suppose to take out several semi modern tanks with a 50 caliber sniper rifle.....are you kidding me!? That is one of the dumbest objective that i've ever had to do The morning after the spud attack, you can control the spud...too bad the dispersion on the thing makes it impossible to hit ANYTHING. Targets were less than 100 meters away, I wouldn't have been able to hit a skyscraper with that thing. Also, please work on the AI, you know you want to.... I was at a corner taking fire, waiting for the guy to reload so i could pop out and put two rounds in his chest, and I have four AI squad mates walk around the corner one by one and get mowed down from wall of 7.62 from this loser with an AK. It would be AWESOME if Bluefor AI would stack up on a corner. Example. 4 man team, two lean around the corner in a high/low formation, the next covers the side and the last man covers the rear. I know that the whole 360 degree coverage, or in this case 180 isn't very important since AI can "sense" enemies. But at least this way they don't run around ever where and get shot, plus it looks cool, which is a bonus right? Those are my main problems with the story, besides that the only other thing i noticed is the American characters still don't sound like they are American...and the main character is lame... Poet.. who in the world thought of a homophobic (hope that doesn't coun't as foul language because there are a lot more words that I use on a daily basis that are more foul) nickname/callsign like that?I also think his voice sounds retarded....but then again I haven't heard many British accents so maybe that's how they sound? All in all I didn't buy this DLC for the campaign because I had a feeling it was going to be lame...I bought it for the units, the chopper, and the SUV, which I am happy with. So ARMA devs, please stop playing COD (and you know you are) and trying to adapt it to ARMA. No more OMG THAT LOOKED EPIC LETS TRY TO DO THAT IN ARM....no, stop it, it doesn't look epic in COD and it doesn't look epic in ARMA. Now thats over with....I still love Arma, I will still play it all the time. I just think that this direction of mission planning and execution is not the way it should go. I look forward to the next DLC, and can only hope the few suggestions I made are heard and implemented in some way. Kind Regards, lo0se
Richey79 10 Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) ... Poet.. who in the world thought of a homophobic (hope that doesn't coun't as foul language because there are a lot more words that I use on a daily basis that are more foul) nickname/callsign like that? You never gave a friend a nick-name just because you knew they would hate that name? Just thought it was worth mentioning: I had my suspicions, since dead crewmen sometimes fall out of the Ka-137... if you want the AI from any faction to use them, set one up in the editor by using ->Independent->PMC->Air etc. Then put a couple of e.g. OPFOR Russians down next to it. Make sure they have a higher 'rank' than the UAV. Group them with the Ka-137 and set them both to 'in cargo.' You can then give the Sputnik waypoints and tell it to attack 'independents' if you want. It seems that the Ka-137s need to begin the mission 'flying' for this to work in many situations. Quite a cool workaround not to have to use the ULB module or anything complex. Hope it's not taken out to fix the dead crewmen ejecting from UAV problem. Edited December 3, 2010 by Richey79
Malleus 0 Posted December 3, 2010 So ARMA devs, please stop playing COD (and you know you are) and trying to adapt it to ARMA. No more OMG THAT LOOKED EPIC LETS TRY TO DO THAT IN ARM....no, stop it, it doesn't look epic in COD and it doesn't look epic in ARMA. This x1000. The PMC campaign is just bad - let's hope it was only a one-time thing.
AnimalMother92 10 Posted December 3, 2010 Let's hope they bounce back (not with Russian DLC). I just can't justify getting PMC. BAF was good, but ya dun goof'd now.
EricM 0 Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) The PMC campaign is just bad That's you opinion. I find it quite enjoyable so far. Lots of nice little ideas. It's not perfect but it's a fresh change. I found a few parts a little too "on rails" for my taste (the convoy ?) but a great atmosphere and fun all around. Edited December 3, 2010 by EricM

JSj 12 Posted December 3, 2010 Anyways, regarding the campaign... I'm really disappointed in it..I realize that its suppose to be about PMC and not military so they do things differently...but its too much run and gun....too close to COD... When you are not in charge, you don't have anyone else to control and give orders to. But it's still Arma, you can't just run and shoot wildly and think that you will still survive. You still need to move tactically and think carefully about where you go and where you look. It's nothing like CoD, in which you face an endless stream of enemies, and you can run forward constantly and just return fire when you are fired upon, because you are a superman that can take hundreds of hits without dying. Play like that in Arma, and you will die instantly. I too prefer the more tactical, slower paced missions when you are in charge, but I think this campaign worked well, and was a nice change of pace from previous campaigns. Yapab 10 Posted December 3, 2010 Hello, After getting Arrowhead and finding that the built in campaign coop was not really coop, but two people playing in totally different areas (just not fun) me and my friend left arrowhead after mission 3 or 4 and forgot about Arrowhead. I just noticed on Steam PMC and saw this text : "Fully implemented 2-player co-op campaign mode" Now could anyone confirm if this co-op campaign mode actually allows you to play with your friend in co-op together, like in ARMA2. We really hated the co-op design in Arrowhead which places each player on a different team, far awy from each other, doing something totally different. Also, the British Forces DLC, does that include any co-op campaign and again the same question as above about PMC. Thanks, Yapa
kylania 568 Posted December 3, 2010 Yup, PMC campaign is playable with two people. For example in the first few missions one player will be Frost while the other is Asano. Not sure about BAF's campaign though.
Yapab 10 Posted December 3, 2010 Kylania, thanks for the quick reply. Can you be a bit more specific, can both players play "together" as in, be in the same spot/area? In Arrowhead coop the players were separated and in totally different areas in the mission, this sucked badly. We enjoy playing in the same area, supporting each other, giving cover fire, flanking etc... so wondering if the coop in PMC lets you play side-by-side :) Yapa
kylania 568 Posted December 3, 2010 I've only played the first few missions so far, but we've been side by side and back to back the whole time. Part of the same fire team doing the same thing.
