drmidnight 10 Posted November 5, 2010 Current stuffs. Radio will be in the back, just put it there to fill out the shot. I'll throw the dump pouch on when I do the belt and holster. Also the front side pouches on the roo need to be rotated slightly to form a curve, they are currently flat, but I will get to that once I finish them, since I just started. The vest could probably do with being extended down a bit too. Just about everything is WIP.

bugkill 7 Posted November 5, 2010 Fox, Your work looks good, but since it is very early I would like to drop some advice for your units and I hope it may help you a bit: 1. I can tell you that these guys really keep it simple. A simple chest rig with western civilian clothes (like blue jeans, khakis, black shirt, etc.) or a mixture of indeginous garb, and usually carrying an AK. Hell, I even seen them in iraq wearing flannel jackets over their tan body armor with camo painted m4's and one with no headgear and the other with a baseball cap, and both were wearing blue jeans. So, you will have some using indeginous garb more than others that may look more like PMCs at times. 2. They can also wear the same camo like the ANA or iraqi forces to blend in with them. 3. I would recommend making 2 versions of your units. (one for middle east ops and the other for european ops) Just throwing that out there for you to digest and if you got any questions, feel free to PM me. Keep up the good work. Fox '09 14 Posted November 5, 2010 We're doing both versions, light and heavy units , the latter will be as you described in point 1. thanks for feedback and suggestions , we will keep these in mind as we make the units
drmidnight 10 Posted November 5, 2010 EDIT: ^^^what fox said
Binkowski 26 Posted November 6, 2010 (edited) the issue me and cameron have with the collar is the fact that on the model, the part that should be by your neck, is down near your upper torso much like a plate carrier. notice how the lower portion of the neck is almost covered in this image and in this image. right now, your vest looks like a mix between ciras, and an iba. this is the collar and neck issue me and cameron are talking about. i always used the arma1 mlods because the us soldiers in arma1 had an otv texture already, and the model fit the iba almost perfectly with the collar and such. Fox '09 14 Posted November 6, 2010 I see what you're talking about now. i'll see what i can do , i just finished texturing the back of it :(
enad 11 Posted November 6, 2010 Bugkill hit some really good points. Listen to him. :p A nice mix of Military looking, civilian and native looking units would be a real nice treat for us mission makers. :D Would just make it perfect for any situation really. Fox '09 14 Posted November 6, 2010 (edited) need to fix up the rest of the ciras.we're doing new normals for the pants. edit: a bit closer. Edited November 6, 2010 by Fox '
drmidnight 10 Posted November 7, 2010 Picked a material that would really extenuate the details, probably will be much more subtle in game.

Fox '09 14 Posted November 7, 2010 here's one variation of the pants in game
enad 11 Posted November 7, 2010 Like I said on steam [GND] Enad: Pants look good. [GND] Enad: Besides that weird [GND] Enad: Crease [GND] Enad: Right on the knees [GND] Enad: on both legs [GND] Enad: opposite from each other [GND] Enad: Theres also a huge crease right up at his crotch. Looks awkward. I guess this would be addressed to you drmidnight. :)
bugkill 7 Posted November 7, 2010 here's one variation of the pants in game I like what you have so far. My only question would be about the use of camo pants. Are you going to have most of your units wear civilian pants or are you going to go with different camos? The CIA guys would normally wear civilian pants because they are not bound to the rule of wearing one piece of military clothing. Not saying that you should not have a model or two wearing camo pants, only asking if most of them will be wearing civilian clothing.
Fox '09 14 Posted November 7, 2010 these are the heavy guys. the will be wearing mostly camo , not specific to any time period really, but they won't be too out of place. they may wear just regular 'pants', jeans for sure, but i haven't decided. the light guys are to come, they will not be wearing baseball caps. they'll be wearing pakuls , maybe IBA's, hell maybe no body armor at all and just chicom vests and a a kameez. I assure you this set will be wearing all sorts of local wear.

However, for your light guys, I highly recommend giving them mostly khakis (black, OD Green, and Tan) and limiting the camo. Also, you may want to break these guys down to what specific operation they may be doing, like for instance the light guys could be called "CIA SAD (Paramilitary Ops)" and they would wear civilian clothing (one group of models in indeginous clothing and the other group in khakis and jeans) and the heavy guys wearing camo pants and body armor could be called "CIA SAD (Direct Action)". Just an idea and I hope it helps.
drmidnight 10 Posted November 7, 2010 Like I said on steam[GND] Enad: Pants look good. Looks awkward. I guess this would be addressed to you drmidnight. :) On the zbrush shots or the ingame shot? If you are referring to the two lines right above the knee that run horizontal on the ingame shot, pretty sure I didn't add those since they aren't on my sculpt. Kind of looks like a seam from the texture. If you are talking about the two that run off the knee cap on the zbrush shots, that's usually how pants drape. I'm probably going to do a couple more iterations of it so I'll tweak some stuff on the next one when I work on it tomorrow. Also which one of the creases near the crotch area? The one on the right leg could probably do with some toning down a bit. I'll take care of it once I have another go. Sounds good. However, for your light guys, I highly recommend giving them mostly khakis (black, OD Green, and Tan) and limiting the camo. Pretty sure we are keeping the light guys in strictly civilian garb, i.e. no camo.
Fox '09 14 Posted November 7, 2010 that's possible. we'll see how it goes, good ideas once again
drmidnight 10 Posted November 7, 2010 Pakul progress, no texture just a plain color. Up next a kameeeeeez and a chicom.
Pvt.mcdonald 10 Posted November 7, 2010 I think Bugkill has some really good points about the mixture between civilian and camo. One more thing I would say is that i've seen many pictures of CIA guys operating in afghanistan wearing stuff like northfaces underneath big afghani scarfs.
drmidnight 10 Posted November 7, 2010 I've been toying with the idea of doing a hooded outer shell jacket(the hood would be down of course), as I too have seen many pictures with guys wearing them. Not sure if its something that we are going to do, but it's worth talking about since it wouldn't require much work and would look great. Definitely doing a scarf though, maybe a couple different shemaghs and what have you, well at the very least one around the neck and probably one as a head wrap. I need to finish up the RAV and pouches before I do anything else, I keep getting sidetracked with other ideas. Thanks for the suggestions.
