We need bulkier soldiers

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or are the soldiers are super tall and incredibly lean and narrow?

This is an ArmA II soldier:

This is a real life soldier:

If Bohemia is making another ArmA game, it would be nice making soldiers more bulkier and more tougher then just being like sticks standing up on a field

I think the soldiers in arma are perfect. It is very hard to make variations in height and "largeness". I believe that one unit would need to have atleast 3-5 different models for variation. Example: You place 10 AR-Riflemen on the field. They all should look different. The game should now randomly pick a model for each unit. The game would be many gigabyte larger if this was done.

I guess the arma soldier is the avarage male soldier. Not michael jordan or gimli.

I agree with OP. I wrote about this back in Arma 1, but everyone seemed to misunderstand and thought I wanted "fatter" soldiers.

The soldiers in Arma have always been too narrow compared to RL soldiers, I was in the army for one year and and even thin guys looked bulky with all the equipment.

See soldiers in Ghost Recon, Call Of Duty, Medal of Honor etc., and even though much can be said about those games, they (especially CoD MW) hits the look and feel of modern soldiers exceptionally well.

@Nixo: True, it's pretty heavy on the wallet :p Reason I'd like them though is because we can have wordplays and nicknames based on their physical attributes built into stories. Also it makes them more easily recognizable, since only from the front and during the day may you actually be able to pick out facial features.

@malkekoen: I agree they look a little on the light side, but you don't want to ruin too much of the light/heavy compatibility either. Put a ruck on the US Officer and you'll see an example where this gets broken. We need an "average" general model so that all proxies work with that model. CoD MW looked nice, but I don't think the engine handled things equally.

I agree with malkekoen 100%.

But this could issue could be solved if addon makers or BI put more gear on their soldiers, they always look skimped on gear. Barely any pouches or anything.

You wouldn't be able to walk 50 feet while using ACE.

I'd love to have those VBS2 commands in! It would be awesome for variation and also for comedy value... :D
