A very large country wide war zone?

Recommended Posts

(i dont know for shure if this is were i should put this question, so if its in the wrong place please move it to were it needs to be.)

Hello, i have arma II operation arrowhead. I thought, what a cool way to put my computer's graphics and memory to the test, i'll make a country wide war zone in the desert map.

I know my basic, basic editor skills such as placing units, grouping, syncing, moving, and the basics of triggers. I also know most of the shortcut commands on the keyboard. but i have no idea how to get atleast 500 enemies and allies to engage in combat at the same time besides spawning them right next to each other and watching them kill each other from two feet away(wow what a run on sentence). i would also like to incorporate tanks and aircraft in my battle to add extra epic splosian, i plan for it to be at night.

do i have to add a waypoint to each individual unit to make them move to the fighting area? i want this to look like the 1700 AI battle on youtube. A lot of help would be greatly apriciated. If you are completely confused on what i just said, i understand and i will respond in a simplified manner. Or if you have questions on anything else i will need to make this war happen.

Yes for each group leader give them the way point for where you want them to meet and basically start fighting at. you could make blufor come from south with waypoints heading north. and opfor come from north with waypoints going south. and even make blufor come from south and east going north and west and vice versa to opfor lol.....

I have a simpler solution for you. use DAC. Here's the link:

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=99753

You don't need to know much at all about editing to be able to use DAC. Once you read the readme (you don't have to read all of it, just read the first ten pages or so, which takes less than half an hour), then create two VERY large DAC zone, each spanning over something like 1/3 of the the map, placed on the two opposite sides of the map. Make sure to set the identity of both zones the same (e.g. [1,0,0]). You'll know what I'm talking about when you've red the readme. The identical identity causes the units of both zones to travel to each other's zone.

The advantage with DAC is that DAC units act as a whole, rather than individually placed units. They come to each other's support, are unpredictable and call for things such as artillary. Want the battle to be contineous? Just add camps to both zones, and the units will then repawn. Another advantage is that you dont's have to manually place 500 (or 1000 if their 500 on each side) units on the map, you just type 500 in the DAC init line. Also, DAC units will opcupy buildings and man static defences. So if you place some unmanned machine gun nests or etc. on the map, they may man it. I personally like the artillary on battles; it makes large scale battles feel very "explosive" and huge.

If you like to make the battle very dynamic, so that both sides capture locations, advance/retreat (so it feels more like a real battle), I've written a script for that. Though I recommend you just produce the scenario produced in the above paragraph.

Also, there is WICT:

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=103360&highlight=WICT

WICT excells at producing a dynamic battle and is quite custimizable, though it is not as easy to learn/use as DAC. After you gained some experience, I highly recommend you using it. It is indeed an excellent tool.

Hope this helps

Cheers

I guess his main endeavor it to see what it takes to choke his comp.

So, as stated, just put opposing armies in the editor, meeting by waypoints, and keep adding, equally, on both sides, till you comp goes belly-up.

Keep in mind the game group limit.

i have a mission that is for arma 2 and can be quicly changed to AO and for the to run 1000 + armies and just finishing a AI script that will make larger AI mission work well

the script works in SP and MP but the mission only work in MP at this point , also just a point -- you wont be testing you graphics as much as testing your CPU let me know if you want the mission and i can help you change it to AO and set up your mission - the mission is BattleField 3, with Revive Respawn and a death cam so you can view your AI on your side, AI respawn , and 12 bases that all you have to do is move them to where you want them and the AI "3 sides" will try to take them over ,

very little scripting knowlage needed
