hovmand 0 Posted May 4, 2002 Does the flaps on planes in flashpoint even work? I dont notice any difference when using them
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted May 4, 2002 They work fine. They increase aircrafts lift, and make takeoffs and landings simpler. Also, they are a good way to gain altitude and bleed speed. And they do work. Really.
Intruder 0 Posted May 4, 2002 You need the flaps with the cessna when taking off, otherwise it doesn't lift off in the latest version. Decreases the stall speed also (at high angle of attack of course )
InqWiper 0 Posted May 4, 2002 Lol I thought the flaps were for slowing down the speed faster when U wanted to land so I never used them while taking off. Now I know why my cessna doesnt take off until I reach a speed of 120 and it gets damaged and then takes off.
InqWiper 0 Posted May 4, 2002 Ok, it still has to reach 120 but it doesnt get dammaged. I saw a plane that looks like the Cessna take off after like 50-70 meters starting from standing still, so I thought the Cessna was taking off pretty late. It probably isnt though. Intruder 0 Posted May 4, 2002 lol Flaps are used for increasing lift at lower speeds. If you slow down, less lift is produced, but by deploying flaps, the lift at that same speed is increased, although you pay with more drag, thus you slow down.
Cumboy 0 Posted May 4, 2002 'Decreases the stall speed also (at high angle of attack of course )' Angle of Attack is the only (besides weight to an extent) definitive factor with stalling .... Flaps increase an aerofoil camber and the fact that they decrease stall speed happens at ALL angles of attack....not just higher angles The flaps in OFP are quite effective, though sometimes.....even in veteran mode they retract before you are safely airborne..... In real life scenarios flaps DON'T increase altitude....quite the contrary.....increasing drag always loses you altitude, with the same power settings anyway The Cessna 182S also uses a zero flap setting for normal take-offs (i.e non short-field ops) and doesn't bounce all over the place and explode when it does above 80kts on the ground, so I wouldn't use OFP as a fair comparison for what the real thing does in this case..... InqWiper 0 Posted May 4, 2002 I just tried plying the Cessna with the nose up att 100 and it was droping slowly. Then I used the flaps to max still the same angle of the plane and the same speed. The plane just kept loosing altitude at the same speed. If Ur flying the same speed with as without flaps it should give U more liftpower with flaps right? Grokk 0 Posted May 4, 2002 They work very very fine. I've been creating a mission lately where you have to land your skyhawk (from gimball's addon) At a very short patch of grass. (you know in everon, that strangely shaped forest, wich looks a little like pacman? That's the place). Without flaps it's quite impossible, for you need to make an almost vertical landing, trying not to hit trees (I must say that when landing I turn engine off, try to brake and use maximum flaps.) Maybe i'll send the mission to ofpec when I finish it.
InqWiper 0 Posted May 4, 2002 A Harrier would make it so much easier :-P

FubarGrn 0 Posted May 5, 2002 all of you DO know that on all the OFP planes there are THREE flap settings..don't you? when you enter a plane hit FLAPS DOWN 2 times for easier takeoff... use the middle setting for low-speed bombing/Dogfighting...use full up for higher speed.... I.E: entrance and egress from target area.. adn I have noticed that even with the flaps set in full down on the HAWK addon plane...the damn thing will not take off under 200MPH... weird huh? USSoldier11B 0 Posted May 5, 2002 Well, I only use the flaps to bleed off speed when landing.

BTW Keg hawk V1.1 fixed that prob didn't it?
