StrongpointArea ?

Recommended Posts

What is the significance of defining StrongpointAreas in the class names?

How does this effect AI, if at all?

Hi CSJ!

It's something to do with enabling the map for warfare... All these definitions like "FlatArea", "CityCenter", "StrongpointArea", etc are basically predefined "location types" (see here in the WIKI... they act like "location logics" for the locations function (see here in the WIKI which is something to do with Modules - Ambient Civs, vehicles - and Warfare... "CityCenter" definitions seem to enable Ambient civ-related stuff, I'm guessing "strongpoints" are Warfare-related...

I have no idea precisely how it all works though... anyone else got any ideas?

I do only know about it from the mission editing side. It's right what Bushlurker says.

With proper locations advanced mission designers will recognize your island as a more professional work.

They are a big help for randomly selecting the right place for our needs. Otherwise we'll have to find&flag such island locations by ourselves in our mission files.

Beginners will especially notice that the BIS modules relying on them aren't working like they expect on your island.

StrongpointArea: Someone going to create a Warfare mission on your island would like them. (If tactically placed)

On Chernarus you can see that they mark the places for the satellite outposts guarding the cities. They are placed pretty good.

- 2 up to 4, based on the city size / approaches

- each overlooking at least one general approach (not especially roads) towards the city

- while being far away enough to deny engaged attackers a line of sight towards the city

- on a somewhat flat area which does look ok with a bunker on it

You can open Chernarus in the mission editor.

Place the bis function module.

Execute this line after the module initalized itself:

["StrongpointArea",[],[true]] call bis_fnc_locations

This debug function will mark all locations of that kind on the player map with grey cirlces.

As an addendum to the above, check out cB_Locations, this mission is already set up for highlighting all the BIS_fnc_locations areas on Chernarus.
