specterx 0 Posted May 3, 2002 Hi... I visited this page yesterday: http://www.dragon.ca/games/action/betweenlines.htm And there was this new / old addon to the game that I´ve never heard about before. "Between the lines"... When did this come out, and is it official. I´ve searched through Codemasters and Bistudio, but there´s nothing written about "Between the lines". What do you know. Is it worth buying, is it good! R. Gerschwarzenge 0 Posted May 3, 2002 BIS and Codemasters have nothing to do with it. It's made by XMP (www.xmp.de) and most people who have tried it say it's very crappy and full of bugs. You can get better and free user made missions and campaigns than Between the Lines.
Intruder 0 Posted May 3, 2002 There was a demo on their site, about 12MB, so you can try it out. I thought it was average (or just below) compared to some of the custom missions released in this community. But R. Gerschwarzenge is right, there are much better mission for free. LordZach 0 Posted May 3, 2002 worst $10 (i think it was $10) i ever spent. honestly a good steak has more replay value than that thing. 50% of the missions i was using -endmission because things would screw up. it was horribly done and horribly scripted. 95% of user made missions are better than that entire campaign
Intruder 0 Posted May 3, 2002 10 bucks, it was about 15 quid here, and I wasn't gonna spend that much on an unofficial campaign, since RH was only Å10. (Boxed that is)
walker 0 Posted May 3, 2002 I bought it 10 Uk Pounds Saved me time downloading some missions. Medium to low quality, there are missions to download with higher production values. It is some short campaigns as well. Narative could be stronger. No addons unlike resistance or red hammer. If your short on cash wait for resistance if the money is no loss maybe buy it. LordZach 0 Posted May 3, 2002 i love how expensive/important units/equpiment appear and disappear very easily between the missions
specterx 0 Posted May 3, 2002 Hi guys! Thanks for your posts. I guess you saved me some money! Well, I figured it would be crappy since nobody seemed to write about it. But how come they can sell that piece of xxxx, and pretend it´s a Codemaster product. That´s the impression you get...
Major Fubar 0 Posted May 4, 2002 Wonder how they got away with selling unofficial missions/addon for OFP? Did they get the OK from Codemasters/BIS first?
Antichrist 0 Posted May 4, 2002 XMP signed some kind of deal with Codemasters, nobody knows what is it, but they definitely signed something
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted May 4, 2002 Did it involve blood signatures or urine samples? or both? I know that when I sold my soul to Satan I had to take a drug test, because, and I quote: "Even we have standards..."
walker 0 Posted May 4, 2002 Just checked the packaging. It says None Authorised Version on it. No mension of BIS or Codemasters on it. If they did they would have to get permission because they are trademarks. Hence None Authorised Version. If I write a Word Document do I have to pay Bill Gates? Plus You need OFP to play. Is there a bit in the end user lisence that says I must get BIS's Codemasters agreement to sell an addon or mission? Not that I intend to (If I was to go down that line I would get an approved sticker it would sell more)
Intruder 0 Posted May 4, 2002 Unless they were just selling the box, and the missions came free
Major Fubar 0 Posted May 4, 2002 I'm pretty sure you are not allowed to sell your own missions etc. without permission from Codemasters. When Flashpoint Arena were going to sell their unofficial resource CD to raise funds for their site, they contacted Codmeasters and were told they were not allowed to sell it, but could give it away free for donations. I'm not sure exactly how copyright laws and such work though...

Ok, they could say that things you create with their mission editor is not to be sold, but you can write missions in notepad. You can call it a work of fiction or whatever. I can't see how they can stop you from selling text files that you have created.
