Searchlight & Mg post !

Hi guys I was wondering if there would be a sctipt that would make a searchlight move let and right.

There could be a trigger where some one walks over with a random change of being detected.

I remember I have seen a long time ago somethin like that with this in there !

or something like that.

Would this be posible to make the searchlight search and spot ?

And maybe hook it to a mg ?

or a mg that can spot ?

Holy crap Big Dawg KS,that I looked in the headers and don't understand jack.

I understand that it can record a certain patern but how and what I don't understand.

I believe I understand that is is called and recorded in the data folder, right ?

There any tutorial on youtube or any kind ?

It's simple really.

1. Copy the "scan" folder into your mission, and the init.sqf (or copy its contents into yours if you have one).

2. Choose which method to use (absolute or relative) and set up a radio trigger to call the capture function on the unit you're capturing for however many seconds you think you need to capture for. Ex:

0 = [sLight,45] spawn BD_fnc_CaptureScanPattern

3. Preview the mission and man/takeover the unit you are capturing. When you're ready to begin capturing, execute the radio trigger (0-0-#) and when the hint shows that you have begun capturing, follow the pattern you wish to record. When you are done, press Esc. If Esc brings up the game menu, just return to game.

4. At this point it will display a hint telling you it has been captured. Simply press F1 to copy the captured data, then alt-tab out of the game, open up any blank file and paste (Ctrl-V) the recorded data. Save this file somewhere in your mission.

5. Return to the mission editor. Now you can call the play function from a trigger passing the recorded data from that file you just made. Ex:

0 = [sLight,call compile loadFile "sLightData.txt",true,false,[Mgun]] spawn BD_fnc_ScanPattern

When this is called, the AI gunner will now follow the recorded pattern.

Anyway, it works pretty much the same way as BIS's UnitCapture and UnitPlay functions, which have already been pretty well documented. So read that thread if you still can't figure it out.

Hmm it is not going like I like to !

i saw that I had to change the name so it worked.

I have a problem though with the info from the copy !

I past it in a folder named it and activated it, but the demo does work, mine doesn't.

What do I miss ?

I saw that the difference was that the data file from the demo had no

Ok, so for those having trouble grasping the startup as I was, name your unit sLight6 ( or what ever as long as it all mathes in the end ) and set the time in seconds in the below example code ( currently 120 ), place that in a radio trigger's On Act. field so you can call it using the radio, by pressing 001 if you used a radio Alpha trigger.

0 = [sLight6,120] spawn BD_fnc_CaptureScanPattern

You can press escape to stop recording at any time.

Then setup your trigger to none, once, present and none and put this in the On Act, field:

Did you download the file in this link http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=103562 that Big Dawg KS made. slight is only the name of the unit being captured and 45 being the duration of the recording in seconds

Once I got the search light recorded and playing correctly I like to set up my searchlight this way.

Place an empty searchlight named slight

Place 3 grouped soldiers next to it and give the leader a getin waypoint placed over the searchlight.

Then place a trigger and set up as follows

I've put it on the unit mounting the searchlight and in the searchlight, I've used my data and the data supplied and still nothing.

I noticed there are some errors, to start with none of the variables are set private, also _lastPlayedFrame is never used and _sleep is used before being assigned a value, according to Squint. Though none of those appear to be the problem from best I can tell.

Your recording is fine your trigger isn't going off, put it on a radio call.

And set the data to the searchlight not the man.

Nope, just try the demo one or the circle and see, it's all the same.

Weird how his example works though, but I noticed the light is unmanned from the start though it has been set to bluefor, which to my knowledge can only happen if you edit the mission.sqm directly, I wonder if that has anything to do with it, why and why it was never mentioned if it is a factor.

All I did was set the searchlight playable (slight6) and moved into his position, I record the data only a few seconds for testing and then when prompted copy and paste the data to notepad.

Save the data in this case light.txt

Now this is really strange and it happened last time with my own test.

When I place the recorded data into the data folder the game can't see the recorded data.

I have to place it in the main folder and change the code accordingly

Anyway it's the only way I can get it to work..
