bladebarrier 0 Posted August 29, 2010 I've been playing this series since the original vanilla release of Op Flash, but I just can't get used to commanding in Arma 2. I found that anytime I'm using vehicles in a more complex way than "get in that chopper", "all disembark", I get incredibly frustrated. I just purchased the BAF expansion to complement Arma2+OA, and I can't even seem to do the first real mission. I load up the Jackals, which is pretty much a PITA by itself, and then I try to get them to move together, but they just bug into trees, or each other, or one will just sit behind. If I use tilde to command all to move, half the people get out of the vehicles and start walking. If I just command the other driver, and drive one vehicle myself, sometimes he can stay with me if I'm just on the main road, but if I actually need to move around something, he goes back to driving like a woman, and crashing into everything around. I also find the command menu incredibly clunky, compared to what I last remembered (it's been a bit since I played Arma 2). I don't seem to get the numbered commands anymore. Just a bunch of mouse driven scroll wheel style interface options, which are horribly slow, and often I can't even find how to get the option I want. Is it just me? Am I an idiot? Did the interface change with the new BAF pack? Please help me at least get my vehicles from A to B. --bb
Jelliz 10 Posted August 29, 2010 Boot camp mission "Team Command" should help you.
bladebarrier 0 Posted August 29, 2010 (edited) Boot camp mission "Team Command" should help you. I get as far as about 20 seconds in. "4, heal that officer". "Roger." "No can do". Apparently I'm not smart enough to sort out the new training even. It just seems to bug at that point, and then I can't continue with it. I've restarted it multiple times, and it always bugs when I get to that spot (which isn't very far into the Team Command training). Can you confirm that your "Team Command" training still works? I'm almost curious if my install is broken, and I need to re-do it. /Steam. Manually copied the Arma folder into the OA folder, without over-writing any OA items. No mods running. Using BAF icon to start the game. Multiple re-installs now. Removed Avira from the system completely, in case it was causing an installation issue. I still can't do the "Team Command" training mission. The medic refuses to heal the officer. ---------- Post added at 07:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:21 PM ---------- Re-installed. Still bugged when trying to get my medic to heal the officer. I also noticed that Avira is picking up BattleEye as a trojan dropper and blocking it. So I'll disable it and try installing again. Wyrdtimes 10 Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) Getting the same problem on the boot camp mission - can't get the medic to heal the officer so can't get any further. Which means I'm stuck in the game as I can't effectively control any troops. Also found it nigh on impossible to get anywhere in a vehicle without driving it myself. Designated driver's actions bear no relation to my commands. I'm a time served gamer but a complete noob to this series. -- Should probably say I've got the game off steam and I have the Brit expansion pack. bladebarrier 0 Posted August 30, 2010 Does anyone know a work-around, to fix the medic bug?
nowhere_man 10 Posted August 31, 2010 I am also stuck in the boot camp mission. Apparently the medic has better things to do. Hopefully when I play the campaign I'll be able to take control of the medic and heal people manually (pita).
nettrucker 142 Posted September 1, 2010 Confirming team command is broken. No matter what you do the medic won't heal the officer. ARMA CO vanilla latest patch here. kind regards
Wyrdtimes 10 Posted September 1, 2010 "ARMA CO vanilla latest patch here" Where?
andromedagalaxe 10 Posted September 1, 2010 The easiest way is to drive the lead vehicle yourself, order the driver of the other vehicle to regroup and into a "column formation" (default is wedge which isn't good for vehicle convoys!) to keep him on the road. He will still have a little trouble keeping up but if you are patient, he will keep up with you. I do this all the time and it's the only way imo. If he gets lost, wait a minute and he wil catch up. Otherwise give him a move order right in front of you and once he's within visual range, switch him back to "regroup"
Wyrdtimes 10 Posted September 1, 2010 I think there is definitely something wrong with my install. There's the driving prob. Issuing driving orders in the OA campaign works as I expected. Issue a direction order - driver goes in that direction. In BAF the driver heads off randomly whatever direction I order. Also the radio on the map disappears sometimes. Members of the squad also make wounded noises but no-one is hit. I deleted the BAF installation and re-installed it but same things happen. Was Nettrucker suggesting there's a patch for BAF? nettrucker 142 Posted September 2, 2010 I mean by latest patch, the ufficial patch 1.54, I used to test the team command issue. kind regards
CaanDo 10 Posted September 3, 2010 Does anyone know a work-around, to fix the medic bug? Just drag the guy backwards back over to where you got the task. Don't pick him up like it says. This isn't a fix, but it does allow you to complete the mission. I have a question too. In about the 5th or so mission you are given a helicopter to take you around. How do you tell the pilot where you wnat to go? I've tried every menu I could find.... Thanks!
RearFloat 10 Posted September 3, 2010 Yep - I also have the Team Command "heal that officer" issue. Can't find any way round it.

RearFloat 10 Posted September 3, 2010 See my earlier post, one above yours, for a work around. Ah, OK - thought that was for a different scenario. The officer's standing up, but hey - I'll give it a go! Will let you know....

Otherwise give him a move order right in front of you and once he's within visual range, switch him back to "regroup" This is exactly what I do and I think it is the best way to handle any mission where you're in a vehicle. Once in action I'll switch to gunner position and then tell the driver to move around using WASD commands. I'll tell him to move forward, shoot at a target, then tell him to reverse back into cover while reloading.
WingmanSR 10 Posted September 8, 2010 perhaps he's not 'actually' wounded and therefore can't be healed. Maybe shooting him in the leg would help? :/ idk
nettrucker 142 Posted September 8, 2010 (edited) I tried that with no luck, he can't get hurt. kind regards EDIT: Dwarden announced fix with the next patch. Edited September 8, 2010 by nettrucker added comment
