Taviana Island for ArmA 2!

I would say that this would be impossible, but you've done the impossible. I think that you should in a later update implement an interstate highway system. If not that, at least make a main four-lane highway if possible.

The AI has a hard enough time driving on one lane - give them four and chaos would ensue!

........ bring it on!

Good point, but Martin has already added other four lane roads on the island, so I figured why not.

I think you may have over done the bridge a wee bit

Meanwhile as somewhat of a whore for trivial things like roadsigns, flags and coat of arms, ect,(though most people wouldn't care about) I'm a bit disappointed at the coat of arms you have going, and I don't like the flag being a simple recolor of the flag of Belarus, other wise it looks really nice, you really got the soviet republic feel down

Also where did you get the hospital murals? they look really nice

We are now literally a few models away from the day everyone has been waiting for so long. I’ve been working like crazy to finish everything before I go on holiday next week, but even if I don’t manage to finish all that I intend to I will still release and then fix it up with some patches later on.

Anyway, you’ve seen it all but I still have a few surprises left up my sleeve wink.gif

In 2003 it was demolished because of asbestos after 30 years of history, if you live in East Berlin you know what I’m talking about... But now it’s back! I give you, the palace of the republic:

BI deserve the greatest thanks for a game that is truly outstanding..

However, I thank each and every one of you who make any ‘Islands’, ‘Mods’, ‘Addons’ etc. Every time a new island is released its like having a new sim. I have, (excl the game islands), around 40 (I think), and each one has its own unique character, I do not do MP but as a SP I can and do make use of each and every island.

So thank you to anyone who has produced Arma2 related Mods etc... Your hard work is much appreciated, it is without doubt the thing that makes Arma2 ’The War Sim’ to own..

Looking forward to Taviana island, looks like a must have...

For example Kellu, my first Island for ArmA2 featured a lot of new objects/ideas, but it's still very rarely being used. Celle on the contrary, a 10x10km map with fairly high level of detail has been put to good use on several occasions. Both maps had new buildings and interesting landscapes designed on purpose for Missions in common.

I use Kellu & Celle regularly, great islands/maps..

Hey Martin! Everything looks so amazing!

Have you thought about, in the store, using some of the graphics from the open markets from OA? The stall tables with vegetables and whatnot on them to fill it up a little?

Would that take too much memory or slow the game down at all?

Come on people, we're not dealing with Martin or any other addonmaker being a robot here, now are we?

Give those creative folks the time they need, they do it for free, and you do not want to see a bug-ridden rushed alpha/beta-release, now do you?

Remember: Patience is a good habbit to have.. And mind you, the moderators hate "that damned question" with a passion.. You'd be warned now. Besides, asking such won't make addons be released all the quicker, rather on the contrary to be more precise..

At all times without alternative options available: Their real-life comes first, that includes family, household, job, friends, health not to be forgotten, and thén if they get bored in their spare time; Only thén comes addon making.

@Martin: If I may give you some advice; Please don't mention release-dates next time, it only ends up giving you problems with people wanting you to release even prior to that date.

It's never speedy enough for some.. And that's a part of human nature, and to deal with it, do not give them a fingertip for they take your entire hand, ending up ripping off your arm with brute force of relentless want..

Hello everyone,

The long awaited moment is finally here! :yay:

First of all, I would also like to thank everyone who has been following Taviana on the BIS forums and other websites, everyone who left replies, their thoughts and encouraged me to ge to where I am now. Thank you guys, I couldn't have done it without you!

I didn’t manage to complete everything that I had in mind by this time but 95% is done although a couple of models aren't completely finished yet (I replaced some of them with construction sites for now) and a few bits and bobs may me missing somewhere:

BUT DON'T PANIC! I can't stress this enough, if there is a texture or model missing/miss aligned don't panic, it’s not the end of the world, it will get fixed, just leave a reply here in this thread, tell me where it is and I'll fix it, remember this is only an alpha version and not the finished thing.

How to use this alpha version:

Please explore the island, use it on your servers if you want to, play on it as much as you like and if you find any bugs or errors please leave a reply here, make a screenshot or tell me where it is/what it is and I will fix it.

If you have any questions/suggestions please also post them here and I will do my best to answer them/include them on the island.

Competition

Fancy having a town named after you on Taviana? Excellent, there is a competition starting from now until October the 30th 2011 which can make that possible!

The task:

Once upon a time when Vikings, Slavs and other ancient warriors roamed Europe, conquering foreign lands, lived a king by the name of Solibor who grew up and liberated Taviana from Viking occupation but died from his wounds a few days after the final battle.

His body was buried in a secret tomb somewhere on the island, be the first to find the tomb and you will have a town on Taviana named in your honour.

Rules:

  • Find the tomb and make a screenshot of it, then post it here. The first person who posts it wins.
  • The deadline is October the 30th 2011

Tips:

Get your climbing shoes on because this will involve climbing over lots of big rocks and squeezing in to little holes, which won't be easy, but don't give up!

Taviana Island for ArmA II (Alpha Version 1.0)

Taviana (Officialy: Tavianska SocialistiÄiskaja Respublika - TSR– The Socialist Republic of Taviana)

is an island country situated in the Baltic Sea approximately 120km off the coast of Lithuania or

Kaliningrad. It has a population of approximately 1 500 000 inhabitants of who 90% are ethnic Slavs

called “Rustakiâ€, Russians or Poles and 10% ethnic Lithuanians. The capital and second largest city of

the republic is Sabina which is located on the Southern coast of lake Umag, has a population of

approximately 150 000 and has the republics main international airport.

What does this Alpha version contain?

This alpha version contains the entire Southern part of the island including the capital city and

dozens of custom models with custom textures.

Since this is an Alpha version some areas of the island are not complete, some models are not complete

and some textures may be missing. BUT, don't panic, everything will be fixed by the time I release the

next BETA version.

What is this Alpha version for?

I am releasing this Alpha version for a number of reasons:

- To present what I have already accomplished and for you to be able to explore the island for yourself.

Installation & Requirements:

This addon requires ArmA 2 or ArmA 2 Combined Arms, there is no difference in terms of functionality.

THIS ADDON IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH STANDALONE ARMA 2: OPERATION ARROWHEAD!

To install this addon follow the instructions bellow:

1) Extract the files called "Tavi.pbo" and "Taviana.pbo" from the archive and place them in

to your ArmA 2 addons directory, usually:

C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\AddOns

(Where "X" stands for the drive on which ArmA 2 is installed.)
