What are the most important sounds for you while using JSRS?

  1. 1. What are the most important sounds for you while using JSRS?

    • The weapon sounds!
    • The vehicle sounds!
    • Environmental sounds!
    • Explosions, Soniccracks, Bullethits, the sound of danger!
    • The script features like the "distance sounds"!
    • Everything combined! The whole Mod itself is important.

Well having seen those videos, Jarhead mate you have created a monster :)

Those weapons sounds & indoor reverb additions will make me load this sim up once more. Ive taken a break from Arma for some time but soon as this lands im back in for sure.

And let me get this right? None of you are contracted to BI yet for Arma3? Its almost illegal .

Was it me or walking sounds surface clothing swipe all new too? They sounded much more subtle, very nice.

It's all so good!

Just remember when you create the AK-74 sounds that it is one of the loudest rifles because of the big muzzle break. Not chunky or deep-throated, but loud. Also, is that the ACE_SM sound I hear on some of the SMGs?

Maybe for them, but I wont be around for long waiting for a chance here... there are other good companies looking for sound guys and BIS does not care enough about sound that they really look for a change. Also, modding is far different than working on AAA Games....

LJ this looks absolutely incredible. I can't imagine playing Arma without your mod! Can't wait for the final release of 1.5.

Sounds are great, but there is one little thing I noticed:

For some reason Barrett M107 sounds different than I expected (compared to the videos below). When you shoot it sounds like you hear just sound of powder exploding. And you dont hear the sound of mechanisms of the gun.

But maybe I`m mistaken because I never heard Barrett M82\M107 shooting in real life.

Please refer to post #5668. It's easy for us to assume many things based of youtube videos, and it's an entirely different matter when someone has actually shot the same weapons or been close enough to them in real life service/combat. The latter type group is what the JSRS team is more inclined to wanting to heard from when it comes to how things really sound, etc, at this phase and not just about personal likes/dislikes or trying to guess just off of a youtube video. No offense, but again it's really tricky to hear what is going on first hand based off of a video posted on youtube due to all kinds of conditions and whatnot. It's better and more beneficial to hear from people who have first hand knowledge about the weapons because of that. And can be more helpful in that regard. Otherwise if we fix it or change it, someone else might not like that change personally or post a low quality video and say "that's how it should sound, no?". :)

@TheHebrewHammer- thanks for that link. I live in Texas, and I just used this as evidence against going to Mexico on vacation with my wife...I hope she now decides on a different locale :)

@JSRS- loving the sounds. Very immersive and makes you feel as though you're watching a real firefight. I will continue to look forward to using these sounds ingame.

Shoting the G82 (equivilant to the M107) you really don't hear a lot of mechanical components working because the intensity of the projectile accelerating and leaving the muzzle is almost numbing your sense for sound. The peak of sound is the muzzleblast. What you would be able to hear is the slight sound of the bolt closing the chamber again but apart from that it doesnt go very far from there.

That`s what I meant when I`ve told about "mechanisms of the gun" actually, because you can hear it really often if you`re watching YouTube :)

Thanks for your explanation. Now I understand why sounds differ (its pretty difficult to understand how the gun sounds only watching the YouTube :))

About hearing bolt carrier in akmhttp://ultimak.com/AKStockR&R/AKNomenclature.jpg - I shot with this weapon, and yes, you can hear bolt carrier impacting after shot, but it has very metalic sound, and it's hardly audible because of shot of course. And there is no realistic sound of this weapon(akm) in ANY game/sim(what you can hear on YT is bullshit, as many people said early).

What we can hear in JSRS I think is OK, but it should be about 50% quieter, and more metalic imo.

And of course congratulations on this awesome work, absolutely the best sound mod ;)

Hey people.

First of all, what an awsome job. This mod is fantastic, thx so much for the effort mate :)

Ive got a question for you :)

Have you thought about creating a code for the DayZ Community Project to enhance the DayZ mod with your addon? :)

I suggested to them to contact you and ask for permission to use J.S.R.S for dayz, but who knows, you might wanna work on it hehe.

I hope im not being to forward or anything, we dont know each other :) But i, along with so many other people, feel J.S.R.S would enhance the DayZ gameplay experience a lot.

What you created here is perfectly suited for the style, that is DayZ.

But i am not a coder, nor am i working on the project my self.

Just a simple admin giving his 2cents hehe.

I hope you think about it mate.

Infact most of the bolt carrier sounds are a bit too loud, afaik. Very cool that they are there, because you can hear them in real, especially if you are the shooter.

Perhaps Jarhead is reducing them a bit in the final version.

Another sound mod developer for the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. made this video showing AK sounds from 0, 3, 20 and 200 meters. This is a modern 5.45 firearm though and an older ak-47 might have a different bolt sound.

So while JSRS might not currently have a 100% authentic sound, the real deal might not sound particularly metallic.

So while JSRS might not currently have a 100% authentic sound, the real deal might not sound particularly metallic.

And you base this theory on a YouTube Video? Please^^

I really like his idea of creating this from the scratch, would do it the same way with the certain money and location^^

To the others complaining about what ever realistic sounding stuff:

As I said, I never want to make super super realistic sounds. Since its impossible I just want to create (in my opinion) authentic sounds. I dont care much about what others may think about "realistic" in that case. Ask 100 people what YouTube Video would sound realistic and you get 100 different links ;)

Please just leave this super tiny issue creating. People start talking about more stuff each day, create more work for me and my team, makes me want to work even more on the mod which causes a far delayed release for you. But hey, what ever you guys think is ok^^

I'm just trying to focus on the functionality and will release it. Before that, dont start talking about any sounds of 1.5 you may not like, since you never played with the latest version, and a crappy YT Vid is so much different from actually playing the mod, trust me.

The sound changes depending on various factors.

Wind, the position or angle of the microphone, microphone quality, distance, the environment where this recording, that depends on temperature or place, the acoustic sound changes etc etc etc, nobody has said that this mod sounds are accurate , or super realistic, but we must recognize that the work these guys have done is really excellent, some sound if you do not like it you can change it, modified for "personal use" the sound you want.

All video you find on the internet, you will see that almost no one has a good sound and properly recorded, because as said above, there are many factors that ruin the sound, JSRS does the best with what it have, is what they have demonstrated this mod.

sorry for my bad English

Couldn't have said it any better, mate. Sometime people are failing to recognize and just seem to piss n' moan just for the sake of it--even though we've repeated such facts non-stop. We just got done discussing about youtube videos and stuff a few posts before trying to explain these things and how they cannot be 100% reliable, yet people still post more videos--even from other games/engines. <facepalm>

People here really and genuinely do not comprehend just how much time and endless (literally, especially due to people here) work Dennis has put into his work. He has been ever-so passionate and excited, especially considering all the vast improvements and new features/abilities 1.5 has, but how much longer can one expect someone to keep going like that when people just want to sit and complain about something. People whining about features and personal twists/interpretations for their own mod based off videos and using videos to somehow justify their moaning and it's not even released yet. How much more will they flood in after 1.5 get's beta'ed out?

There's nothing wrong with giving feedback and not trying to come off overly defensive with feedback, but we are talking about accurate feedback from people who know 100% exactly what they are talking about from first hand personal and real-world experience. If you spend your time playing games and watching Youtube combat footage and suddenly think you should give some armchair general feedback on how you think weapons should go "pew pew, 'murica"--please keep it to yourself. We're more concerned about actual bugs and performance from here on out and not whether something should jangle instead of jingle, to click instead of clack.

The video was a response to people saying that the AK bolt sound should sound more metallic unlike in current 1.5, and the video shows that it doesn't need to, but it depends on the model. I was arguing for Jarheads sake all along lel xD

Hey jarhead have you changed the sound of the miniguns on the helicopters? I love doing escort missions with the blackhawk but the sounds are very displeasing.
