What are the most important sounds for you while using JSRS?

  1. 1. What are the most important sounds for you while using JSRS?

    • The weapon sounds!
    • The vehicle sounds!
    • Environmental sounds!
    • Explosions, Soniccracks, Bullethits, the sound of danger!
    • The script features like the "distance sounds"!
    • Everything combined! The whole Mod itself is important.

A sonic crack can't be louder than the muzzle blast of the weapon that fired the round.

The sonic cracks are unrealistically loud... but that's exactly the way it should be! Like Jarhead says, you can't get the exact real life sound because you're sitting in front of a computer. But you should feel the fear. That snap should cut right through the din of battle to scream "you almost just died, sucker!"

Sometimes a close barrage of shots will leave me completely stunned, and that's great.

Delete the .pbo and use ACE_SM's sonic snaps if you want. Those are very high quality and accurate, and much milder in volume.

Good points here, without being able to simulate the real reality of war( Which I would not like to try) you have to do things to enhance the immersion i.e. sonic cracks. Yes it is a shade unrealistic, but so is pressing the restart button.

Any more turbine videos for the jets? Any special characteristics in sound of the aircraft like the Russian jets?

I dont know about anyone else, but when I was at the ranges and in the buts, sonic cracks are bloody loud. So what are people on when they say they need toning down?

Yeah its a shame that Tango Romeo stopped working on Arma. I hope he is still alive... haven´t heard anything from him for a very looong time. But his Vehicle Sounds were beautifull.

His Tank Sounds... If you had a good Subwoofer and a T-72 drives by, literally the whole house was shaking.

It needs to be toned down a bit becouse I dont need to do damage to my ear drums playing a video game. You cannot cusomize weapons volume and soundcrack volume the way you can radio for example.

Technically you can, it's called the "Effects" slider in the audio settings, but yes I do agree with you. The Bullet cracks are a little loud, they should be a bit more quiet.

No they should not. If you hear them you did something wrong before that, you need to get punished for that ^^

Nah, you may right, its a bit loud while getting under fire. I love it this way, corze this is more like an "Wohooo, I may shouldn't do it!" and you go another way or getting low or behind cover. It makes you to take cover. It shows you how quickly your life can be over in the game. It tells you: "It was very close buddy!" Ok, it's obviously annoying after a while, just in case a mate is standing behind you, with an M249 in hand, and firing over your head away. This can make you sick.

But so it is, I have heard from many people who have received a ruptured eardrum only because of the soniccracks! In some videos you can see, that the Soniccracks of the enemy fire is louder than the shots of the fellow right next to you!

Yah I will make different versions, one with RL like and louder, and a quieter version.

Oh no, don´t go for an even louder version. They are fine as they are now, with a louder Version you´ll get some people with Headsets into deep trouble.

Dont you change volume for all weapons and such in effects? So if you lower the effects, weapons are quieter too? Anyway, its not a problem when fired apon, problem is your AI when they shoot from behind you. Then sound cracks are killing my ears.

No I can not change the volume of all effects with one config. For making all weapons qiueter I have to rework all configs, so about 150 configs? Thats too much, even for me^^ And I wont change the volume of the weapons! Just a new Soniccrakcs config, and you will have the choice between RL and quieter Cracks... hope this is ok for you.

what do you think about reworking the AK 47 a little bit, since its almost the most used gun in the battlefield it would be important to have some sounds at LordJarhead standard

Looks like the AK in the first video has a muzzle brake on it, making it sound more like a 74.

The AK-47 is actually curiously rare in Arma 2. The Russians don't use it, the CDF don't and Napa and Chedaki only use it half the time. Not even the Takiban carry it unless you have ACE.

Thanks for the Videos mate, but I have a good friend in the USA, he is making a lot of videos for me (with his new Sony HD cam ^^) and in the summer I will travel to the USA anyways. Than I can make a lot of new stuff... including weapons,,,

Not to try to drive you crazy or anything, but how much work would it be to tweak the RPG?

I mean, could you make the launch sound and whoosh of the rocket motor a little closer together? At the moment there is a pretty long delay between pulling the rocket leaving the tube and the sound of the main booster igniting. Often the rocket hits its target before the second sound is finished playing, which sounds weird.

But if we get all the launchers in the game with at least placeholder sounds, and perhaps a M134 sound, I won't bug about the weapons every again.

Thats great to hear. I ment there is no way for end user to adjust separately sounds in ArmA 2 options menu. That is why I would like not to go into extremes with volume of certain sounds, like vehicles, sonic cracks, etc. But if I am able to choose to get my ears blown or not, thats great. :)

Jarhead, do you know how to use userconfig folders? That would be a much better way to allow user options that just uploading separate packs.

Well, I have no idea of userconfig folders. Its part of some addons, yah I know, but not much more. With that you can adjust things in the addon or what?

I was just wondering LJ if you know why the engine noise of the A-10 cuts out when firing the GAU-8? I have a video which shows perfect example of this...

Possibly because too many sounds are playing at once? engine sound, cannon fire sound and cannon hits sound, is this an engine limitation?

That could be it, if Jarhead's sound is highly complex or a quick series of sounds (ACE forces burst-mode for the A-10, avoiding the problem of variable rates of fire).

Try setting your number of sound samples to the highest in Audio options and see if the problem persists.

It means that we have to put a JSRS text file in the userconfig folder and then enable and disable various options by typing 1s and 0s. It would look something like, Quiet Sonic Snaps=1

I know nothing else about it since I don't mod, but I bet it's not too hard. Mandoble uses them in MMA, and he likes showing people how to code things.

yeah ok you cant do it all at once

and 1.3 focus is on vehicles
